摘要:
The present invention is based on the discovery of genetic polymorphisms that are associated with myocardial infarction. In particular, the present invention relates to nucleic acid molecules containing the polymorphisms, variant proteins encoded by such nucleic acid molecules, reagents for detecting the polymorphic nucleic acid molecules and proteins, and methods of using the nucleic acid and proteins as well as methods of using reagents for their detection. Figure 1 provides a diagrammatic representation of a computer-based discovery system containing the SNP information of the present invention in computer readable form.

Treatment apparatus, system and method are disclosed for treating a biological fluid, such as blood or blood components. The treatment may include but isnot limited to inactivation of pathogens in red cell concentrate. The system may include a disposable fluid circuit assembly and a reusable controller that controls flow through the fluid circuit for reconstituting, if necessary, a treating agent, combining the treating agent with a biological fluid and mixing the agent and biological fluid. An optional quenching agent may also be used.

The present invention is based, at least in part, on the generation of an animal model of pancreatic adenocarcinoma which recapitulates the genetic and histological features of human pancreatic adenocarcinoma, including the initiation, maintenance, and progression of the disease. Accordingly, the present invention provides animal models of cancer, e.g., pancreatic adenocarcinoma, wherein an activating mutation of Kras has been introduced, and any one or more known or unknown tumor suppressor genes or loci, e.g., Ink4a/Arf, Ink4a, Arf, p53, Smad4/Dpc, Lkb1, Brca2, or Mlh1, have been misexpressed, e.g., have been misexpressed leading to decreased expression or non-expression. The animal models of the invention may be used, for example, to identify biomarkers of pancreatic cancer, to identify agents for the treatment or prevention of pancreatic cancer, and to evaluate the effectiveness of potential therapeutic agents.

The present invention relates to newly identified nucleic acid molecules and polypeptides present in normal and neoplastic breast cells, including fragments, variants and derivatives of the nucleic acids and polypeptides. The present invention also relates to antibodies to the polypeptides of the invention, as well as agonists and antagonists of the polypeptides of the invention. The invention also relates to compositions containing the nucleic acid molecules, polypeptides, antibodies, agonists and antagonists of the invention and methods for the use of these compositions. These uses include identifying diagnosing, monitoring, staging, imaging and treating breast cancer and non-cancerous disease states in breast, identifying breast tissue, monitoring and identifying and/or designing agonists and antagonists of polypeptides of the invention. The uses also include gene therapy, production of transgenic animals and cells, and production of engineered breast tissue for treatment and research.

This application is directed to a process of identifying a compound capable of modulating activity of a human ENDO180 receptor that comprises the steps of measuring the binding of the ENDO180 receptor to an interactor with which the ENDO180 receptor interacts specifically in vivo, in the absence or presence of a compound, and determining whether the binding of the ENDO180 receptor to the interactor is affected by the compound. This application is also directed to use of a compound identified by that process in the preparation of a medicament for therapy of disease, in particular fibrosis. This application also relates to the use of ENDO 180 modulators in treatment of disease.

An endcap (10) for a lancing device. The endcap (10) has a substantially planar contact face (20) surrounding an opening (16) for passing a lancet tip. The contact face (20) has a length substantially greater than its with, and at least one side edge along its length. The user tips the lancing device to bring a side edge into contact with the skin several inches from the intended sampling site, draws the contact face (20) along the skin toward the sampling site, and lances the skin to obtain a fluid sample. The contact face (20) can be repeatedly drawn along the skin toward the sampling site to stimulate blood-flow until the desired sample size is obtained.

An acoustic-to-electrical transducer (152) for sensing body sounds is disclosed. The transducer (152) comprises a diaphragm (2/202) that can be placed in direct contact with a body, whereby the diaphragm motion directly affects an electromagnetic sensing signal, which is then converted to an electrical signal representation of the diaphragm motion. Such sensing means (70) allows the diaphragm (2/202) to move freely without mechanical coupling to a secondary transducer, while providing a direct and further provides a means for using static diaphragm pressure to control gain and frequency characteristics of the electrical signal. The transducer provides methods for ambient noise reduction or applications such as well as means for simulating sound detection for applications such as medical education and testing. The sensor, circuitry, manufacturing methods and improvements are disclosed.
