Abstract:
Absorbent interlabial devices are disclosed. Preferably, the absorbent interlabial device has a liquid pervious topseet, a liquid impervious backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet. The device preferably also has a grasping tab joined to the backsheet. The tab preferably has at least a first zone and a second zone where the stiffness of the first zone is greater than the stiffness of the second zone. Preferably, the tab is made up of multiple layers. These layers are preferably laminated to each other in the first zone and are not laminated to each other in the second zone.
Abstract:
A disposable absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, is disclosed that has components which may separate in the Z-direction with relation to other components of the article when the absorbent article is worn. The sanitary napkin of the present invention comprises a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet, an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet, and a liquid pervious spacing structure for moving the topsheet away from the core. The spacing structure is generally positioned between the topsheet and the core. The spacing structure has a longitudinal centerline, and opposed lateral sides which may move inwardly toward the longitudinal centerline when the spacing is compressed from the sides. This results in at least a portion of the spacing structure moving the topsheet apart from the absorbent core. In an alternative embodiment, the sanitary napkin of the present invention also has an absorbent core which separates from the backsheet of the sanitary napkin.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods for deforming a web comprising the steps of supplying a precursor web; weakening the precursor web at a plurality of locations to create a plurality of weakened, melt-stabilized locations in precursor web; and forming a plurality of first features and a plurality of second features throughout the first and second layers of the web in the z-direction, wherein the plurality of first and second features are formed simultaneously.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods for deforming a web comprising the steps of supplying a first layer of a web; weakening the first layer at a plurality of locations to create a plurality of weakened, melt-stabilized locations in the first layer; supplying a second layer of the web onto at least part of the first layer; and forming a plurality of first features in the first layer and a plurality of second features throughout the first and second layers of the web in the z-direction, wherein the plurality of first and second features are formed simultaneously.
Abstract:
Corrugated and apertured web materials are disclosed. More specifically, the webs comprise alternating ridges and grooves, wherein apertures are located in the grooves. In one embodiment, a web comprises alternating ridges and grooves as well as alternating regions of lower basis weight and higher basis weight. The higher basis weight regions are located in the ridges and grooves and the lower basis weight regions are located in the sidewalls between the ridges and grooves. The higher basis weight regions located in the grooves comprise apertures. The apertures have greater open area than previous apertures in similar webs.
Abstract:
Included are embodiments for predicting an expected life of a pliable material. Some embodiments of a method include modeling, by a computing device, the pliable material and simulating strain on the pliable material, wherein simulating strain on the pliable material includes creating a strain results file. Similarly, some embodiments of the method include identifying, from the strain results file, a point of strain energy density on the pliable material, accessing a life prediction curve associated with the pliable material to determine a material file, and creating a strain-material file by combining the strain results file and the material file. Still some embodiments of the method include executing software to predict the expected life of the pliable material and predicting the expected life of the pliable material.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a compound sanitary napkin. The compound sanitary napkin includes a primary absorbent member secured to a secondary absorbent member. The primary absorbent member includes an absorbent core wrapped in an outer cover, at least a portion of the outer cover being liquid impervious. The secondary absorbent member includes a liquid impervious backsheet and an absorbent material joined thereto. Optionally, the secondary absorbent member includes a backsheet, a topsheet joined to the backsheet and an absorbent core disposed between the backsheet and the topsheet.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for mechanically bonding substrates (102,104) together. The apparatus comprises a bonding roll (106) comprising a base surface (120) and plurality of nubs (116) extending from the base surface, each of the plurality of nubs (116) comprising: a sidewall; a bonding surface; and a shoulder connecting the sidewall to the bonding surface. The shoulder comprises a single chamfer or a radius to, inter a//a,reduce tearing of the substrates.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for fabricating absorbent article having multiple layers, and deformed zones of targeted performance, and colored regions, the method comprising the steps of forming discrete features on at least one layer, printing colored regions on at least one layer, integrating multiple layers to form an absorbent assembly, and cutting the absorbent assembly into individual absorbent articles, wherein the steps are carried out continuously.
Abstract:
Apparatuses and processes for aperturing and stretching a web are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method involves feeding a web into a nip that is formed between at least one pair of intermeshing rolls. The first roll is a raised ridge rotary knife aperturing roll and the second roll is a ring roll; both rolls comprise ridges and grooves. The first roll comprises a plurality of spaced-apart teeth extending outwardly from the top surface of the ridges, said teeth having tips, wherein the top surface of said ridges are disposed between the tips of said teeth and the bottom surface of said grooves. These apparatuses and processes enable a web to be formed which comprises apertures having greater open area than previously achievable with traditional processes and apparatuses.
