Exemplary embodiments of the invention include a method and apparatus for cooling a metal strip that is being advanced in a generally horizontal fashion. The method involves delivering a coolant liquid onto a lower surface of the strip from below across the entire width of the strip, preventing the coolant liquid from contacting the upper surface of the strip, and optionally subsequently removing the coolant liquid from the lower surface. The coolant liquid is prevented from contacting the upper surface by forming a gas-directing channel immediately above the upper surface of the strip adjacent to one or preferably both lateral edges of the strip and forcing a gas through the channel in a direction generally away from a center of the strip towards the one or both lateral edges to deflect coolant liquid away from the upper surface of the strip. The apparatus provides means for carrying out these steps.

The invention relates to a method for operating a hot rolling train (1) for rolling hot-rolled strip, to a control device for carrying out the method, and to a hot rolling mill (1) for rolling hot-rolled strip (B), comprising a cooling section (4) for cooling the hot-rolled strip (B). By installing at least one strip driving device (7, 8, 9), by means of which a tensile stress of the hot-rolled strip (B) can be adjusted, in the mass flow direction after the start of the cooling section (4) and in the mass flow direction before the end of the cooling section (4), a hot rolling mill can be provided by means of which the quality of the hot-rolled strip that is produced can be improved.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Betrieb einer Warm- walzstraße (1) zum Walzen von Warmband, eine Steuer- und/oder Regeleinrichtung zur Durchführung des Verfahrens, sowie ein Warmwalzwerk (1) zum Walzen von Warmband (B), umfassend eine Kühlstrecke (4) zum Kühlen des Warmbands (B). Indem wenigstens eine in Massenflussrichtung nach Beginn der Kühlstrecke (4) und in Massenflussrichtung vor Ende der Kühlstrecke (4) angeordnete Bandantriebseinrichtung (7, 8, 9), mittels der eine Zugspannung des Warmbands (B) einstellbar ist, vorgesehen ist, kann ein Warmwalzwerk bereitgestellt werden, mittels welchem die Qualität des hergestellten Warmbands verbessert werden kann.

A support frame for an electrical transformer assembly, comprising two loop-shaped parts, each loop-shaped part having a plurality of limbs, each limb having a peripheral recessed portion in which a primary electrical coil is mountable, and at least one secondary coil is mountable in piggyback on the primary electrical coil, one limb of each loop-shaped part having a straight section. The frame also includes an adjustable attaching means for attaching one of the loop-shaped parts with respect to the other loop-shaped part and adjusting a distance therebetween, so that only the straight sections are adjacent and form a central leg, the central leg being for receiving a magnetic core distinct from the attaching means. The frame provides a means and a method to efficiently secure adjacent windings in a circular core transformer kernel.

A cold drawn carbon steel filament has a surface with traces of bismuth. The steel filament can be used as a sawing wire or as part of a steel cord. During its manufacturing the steel filament has been subjected to a controlled cooling by bringing the steel filament in contact with bismuth. Bismuth may replace lead without harming the environment.

The invention relates to a method for annealing a strip of steel having a variable thickness in its length direction with at least thicker and thinner sections wherein the strip has been cold rolled to form the thicker and thinner sections, one thicker and one thinner section having a length of at most a few meter. According to the invention, the annealing is performed by continuous annealing.

The invention discloses a process and apparatus for micro-treating an iron-based alloy including heating and immediately quenching to room temperature to produce high tensile iron-based alloy with varying thicknesses. The process may or may not be practiced with or without tenstion under various controllable tensions in order to create desirable effects The micro-treated iron-based alloy contains desirable bainite to increase its formability and tensile strength. The varying thickness of the iron-based alloys is desirable for different applications, such as forming automobile panels.

Bei der Herstellung von Stahl wird für die Kühlstrecke (5) ein Umwandlungsmodell (10) verwendet, mit dessen Hilfe zusätzlich zur Temperatur (T) des Stahls auch die Phasenanteile (P i ) entlang des Stahlbandes in Echtzeit berechnet werden. Es wird ein Regelungssystem implementiert, das die Phasenanteile (P i ) des an einer haspelvorrichtung (12) aufgewickelten Stahlbands konstant hält. Dazu wird in folgenden Schritten verfahren: In einem ersten Schritt wird aus Daten, die aus den Primärdaten (P) des Stahlbands gegeben sind, der Umwandlungsgrad, bei Mehrphasenstählen z.B. der Ferritanteil, ermittelt. In einem zweiten Schritt werden bei Bandeintritt in die Kühlstrecke (5) ein oder mehrere Parameter der Kühlstrategie, d.h. Stellgrössen (S), im Sinne einer Regelung online so angepasst, dass der Ferritanteil des gekühlten Stahls an der Haspelvorrichtung (12) konstant gehalten wird.
