Abstract:
The invention relates to repair installation of a vehicle body and a method of performing repair works with said installation, in particular for removal of excess of hardened filling material (grinding) from defective vehicle body parts, using a computer-controlled robotic device. The installation consists of three main units – the master and slave units and a computer control unit. The operation of said three main units is based on scanning the undamaged corresponding part of the same vehicle or any other vehicle and executing the processing of the damaged area of the vehicle body. Aim of the invention is to provide an installation and method for operating said installation with respect to the thin-walled, complex configurations of a vehicle body and repair specifics without damaging the metal (tin) part of the vehicle body.

An apparatus for recutting the surface of a wheel is described. The apparatus comprises a rotatable mount, for holding and rotating the wheel about i ts axis, a surface profiler, operable during rotation of the wheel to detect surface elevations at different radial positions on the wheel, a surface elevation profile generator, operable to generate a surface elevation profile of at least a portion of the surface of the wheel from the detected surface elevations, a cutting profile generator, operable to calculate a cutting profile for the wheel from the surface elevation profile, the cutting profile defining a cutting elevation with respect to radial position, a cutting tool, and cutting control circuitry, operable to control the position of the cutting tool with respect to the wheel to recut the surface of the wheel in accordance with the generated cutting profile. By profiling the wheel while it is rotating, the time required to profile a desired portion of the wheel can be reduced.

The invention relates to a system and a method for processing a profile of a solid, which profile is captured, preferably in a dynamic manner, to determine its wear. According to the invention, data of the captured profile of the solid are used as a control variable for controlling at least one surface treating machine, especially for use in the mechanic surface treatment of the wheel of a rail car.

An apparatus and method of measuring and correcting the profile (W) of a railroad track rail (20). A strobe light (50) oriented directly over a railroad track rail (20) and at a 45 DEG angle to the horizontal, projects a light line (66) across the rail (20). A pair of cameras (52, 54) are oriented directly over the rail (20) to view the light image on the rail (20). The light lines (70, 72) reflected from the foot surfaces (34, 36) of the rail (20) provide a reference for numerically describing the profile (W) of the railhead (22). The measured rail profile (W) is then compared to an ideal rail profile (I), and the results of the comparison are used to position grinding modules (64) for grinding the rail (20) to a preferred profile.
