Abstract:
Micro-electro-mechanical (MEM) translational tabs (26) are introduced for enhancing and controlling aerodynamic loading of lifting surfaces. These microtabs (26) are mounted at or near the trailing edge (24) of lifting surfaces, deploy approximately normal to the surface, and have a maximum deployment height on the order of the boundary layer thickness. Deployment of this type of device effectively changes the camber, thereby affecting the lift generated by the surface. The effect of these microtabs (26) on lift is as powerful as conventional control surfaces such as ailerons. Application of this simple yet innovative lift enhancement and control device will permit the elimination of some of the bulky conventional high-lift and control systems and result in an overall reduction in system weight, complexity and cost.
Abstract:
A transformable towel dispenser is presented that can be quickly transformed from a low profile shipping form into a full, ready to dispense form in a substantially tool free manner. The transformability of the dispenser allows the dispenser to be shipped and stored in much smaller space than that for ready to dispense units. Alternatively, more dispensers can be shipped in the same volume container.
Abstract:
A combinatorial microenvironment generator is configured for the generation of arbitrary, user-defined, steady-state, concentration gradients with negligible to no flow through the growth medium to perturb diffusion gradients or cellular growth. More importantly, the absolute concentrations and/or gradients can be dynamically altered upon request both spatially and temporally to impose tailored concentration fields for in-situ stimulus studies. Here, diffusion occurs via an array of ports, each of which can be an independently controlled source/sink. Together, the array of ports establishes a user-defined, 3D concentration profile. Useful methods related to this device are also provided.
Abstract:
A web dispenser comprising a housing for holding at least one roll of web material therein. A mandrel connects to the housing for maintaining at least one roll of web material thereon and facilitating the rotation of the roll of web material to dispense the web material from the roll. A mounting block is affixed to the housing for mounting the housing to a wall at an acute angle relative to the wall. This results in the ergonomic presentation of web material to a stationary user.
Abstract:
A method is provided for cationically polymerizing olefin monomer by employing the step of using a novel coinitiator in an organic phase or a neat monomer reaction phase. More specifically, a method is provided for cationically polymerizing olefin monomer by employing the step of using a novel coinitiator in an organic phase or a neat monomer reaction phase, wherein the organic phase is a hydrocarbon solution of the monomer or a halogenated-hydrocarbon solution of the monomer and wherein the neat-monomer reaction phase is a liquid monomer.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to anti-CDH6 antibodies, antibody fragments, antibody drug conjugates, and their uses for the treatment of cancer.
Abstract:
Tissue engineered constructs and methods for fabricating the disclosed constructs are provided. Some of the disclosed tissue engineered constructs are designed to fill a void in the body due to surgical resection, for example from mastectomy or lumpectomy, wounds and the like. Some disclosed constructs comprise one or more projections designed to mimic the appearance of a structural feature when implanted into a host.
Abstract:
A system which implements a preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a means for monitoring a patient's medication compliance. In one embodiment, the system will send a message to a patient's wireless device with a notification when it is time for the patent to administer a prescribed treatment. The system may also request that the patient or a caregiver reply with a confirmation that the treatment was completed. In one embodiment, the system may include sensors that detect whether a prescribed treatment was completed. The system may also record information such as the time, date, and substance of the transmissions of the reminder messages and/or the receipts of the confirmation messages or sensor readings. In one embodiment, the system may also send alert messages if the system is unable to verify whether a patient has completed her prescribed treatment at a designated time.
Abstract:
A web dispenser is fitted with a crank that extends from the side or below the dispenser and is ergonomically shaped to receive the edge of a user's hand rather than the palm side of the user's hand. The crank interfaces with an advance mechanism in the dispenser that advances web material from the roll as the crank is pushed downward. The crank has a curved body that forms a recess or depression for receiving the edge of the user's hand.
