A water-dilutable coating, a process for preparing the same and its use are disclosed. The coating contains: A) 40 to 95 % by weight of a film-forming, possibly at least partially neutralised polyurethane resin containing OH groups, or a mixture of such resins, as an aqueous dispersion; B) 60 to 5 % by weight of one or several polyisocyanates having more than one free isocyanate group and rendered fluid at room temperature, by admixture of one or several organic solvents; and C) optionally one or several additional binders, usual pigments, fillers and/or the usual lacquer additives and auxiliary substances. The percentages by weight of A) and B) refer to the solid resin content and add up to 100 % by weight.
Abstract:
Significant improvements in the utility of oxazolidone and polyoxazolidone compounds and in their manufacture can be achieved using a novel catalyst in the reaction between a hindered isocyanate and an epoxy, forming oxazolidone ring structures. The novel catalyst of the invention promotes the efficient and rapid formation of oxazolidone and polyoxazolidone compounds. The use of hindered isocyanate in the reaction prevents formation of side reaction products such as isocyanate trimer, allophanate and biuret.

Partially crosslinked polyurethane polymers comprising diisocyanates and aliphatic hydrocarbon soft segments with a short-chain diol chain extender and a multifunctional amine and/or alcohol crosslinker to provide a polyurethane polymer with useful properties for the production of medical implant devices such as heart valves, are described. The polymers have an unexpected linear elastic region in a range from 5 - 100% and preferably between 10 - 35%. In some embodiments the polyurethanes are a thermally convertible gel formulation which may be converted to a liquid formulation by extended heating to render the polymer suitable for solvent processing techniques such as casting, spraying, spinning, etc. The invention also provides for living hinge polyurethane polymers which are thermally modifiable from a gel to a liquid and reaction injection moulded (RIM) polyurethanes with an enhanced flex life.

The present invention relates to polymers having dynamic urea bonds and more specifically to polymers having hindered urea bonds (HUBs). The present invention also relates to: (a) malleable, repairable, and reprogrammable shape memory polymers having HUBs, (b) reversible or degradable (e.g., via hydrolysis or aminolysis) linear, branched or network polymers having HUBs, and (c) to precursors for incorporation of HUBs into these polymers. The HUB technology can be applied to and integrated into a variety of polymers, such as polyureas, polyurethanes, polyesters, polyamides, polycarbonates, polyamines, and polysaccharides to make linear, branched, and cross-linked polymers. Polymers incorporating the HUBs can be used in a wide variety of applications including plastics, coatings, adhesives, biomedical applications, such as drug delivery systems and tissue engineering, environmentally compatible packaging materials, and 4D printing applications.

The present invention discloses a thermoplastic polyurethane comprising substantially no plasticizers and having a Shore A hardness of 60 or less, which is prepared by a one-step polymerization of i) linear polyol, ii) organic diisocyanate and iii) glycol chain extender mainly comprising ethylene glycol and/or 1,3-propanediol; wherein the linear polyol (i) has a number average molecular weight within the range of from 1.5 x 10 3 g/mol to 5.0 x 10 3 g/mol. The thermoplastic polyurethane of the present invention can be easily produced by conventional production methods, and the thermoplastic polyurethane thus produced can be molded to articles in practicable processing cycles. Moreover, the thermoplastic polyurethane articles have low shrinkage, have good low-temperature properties and good mechanical properties, and do not harden substantially at low temperature.

An electro-optic display comprises a layer of solid electro-optic material; a backplane comprising at least one electrode; and an adhesive layer disposed between the layer of electro-optic material and the backplane and adhesively securing the layer of electro-optic material to the backplane, the adhesive layer comprising a thermally-activated cross-linking agent comprising an epoxidized vegetable oil fatty acid or an epoxidized ester of such a fatty acid. The cross-linking agent reduces void growth when the display is subjected to temperature changes.
