Abstract:
The invention relates to core-shell particles, said particles comprising : - a core consisting essentially of at least one tetrafiuoroethylene (TFE) polymer [polymer (F)], said core having an average primary particle size of less than 100 nm - a shell consisting essentially of at least one high performance polymer [polymer (HPP)], wherein the polymer (HPP) is chosen among polycondensation polymers that have a heat deflection temperature (HDT) of above 800C under a load of 1.82 MPa when measured according to ASTM D648. The core-shell particles of the invention advantageously allow obtaining molded articles with homogeneous properties, both when used alone and when used as additive, as they generally do not undergo segregation phenomena. Still objects of the inventions are the process for manufacturing said core-shell particles, the use of said particles as additives, the composition and the articles thereof.
Abstract:
Photoactivatable prepolymers and methods of use thereof are disclosed for microencapsulation of a substantially water-insoluble material within a nonporous shell. As provided herein, the microencapsulated material is released with no more than a slow release rate. Upon exposure of the nonporous shell to light, the nonporous shell is converted into a porous shell having an increased release rate for the microencapsulated material.

Abstract:
This invention provides a novel high-build, self-polishing marine antifouling paint which affords a coated film having antifouling properties for a long period of time. The paint binder which is a fiber reinforced aldehyde resin comprises two synergisticially acting components, Component A and Component B. Component A an aluminium di-sec-alkoxide ace-toacetic ester chelate is represented by the following formula (I): (Rsub.1-O-)sub2-Al-(CHsub.3-CO-CH-CO-O-Rsub.2) wherein R.sup.1 represents an sec.-alkyl group having 3 to 10 carbon atoms, or a cycloalkyl group ; and R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or a cycloalkyl group. Component B a monoalkoxy organo-titanate-IV is represented by the following formula (II): Rsub.3-O-Ti(-X)sub3 wherein Rsub.3 is a monovalent organic group having from 2 to 30 carbon atoms or a substituted derivative thereof ; X in the above formulae independently represents an acylate group, a sulfonic acid residue, a phosphoric acid residue or a pyrophosphoric ester residue, or a mixture thereof. The coating composition includes (a) at least one sparingly soluble metalliferous pigment; (b) at least one marine biocide which can also function as the pigment; and optionally (c) one or more highly insoluble pigments, and optionally (d) film consumption regulators. Coating films formed from the above antifouling coating compositions, such as on a hull or an underwater structure, have excellent antifouling properties for a long period of time and consumability (self-polishing properties). Further, these antifouling coating compositions have excellent storage stability.
Abstract:
A polyoxymethylene resin composition is provided containing, per 100 parts by weight of a polyoxymethylene resin, 0.02-0.5 parts by weight of inorganic powder having a specific solid solution of magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide. The polyoxymethylene resin composition, even when used in contact with water, water vapor, or the like, or when exposed for long periods of time to high temperature, high moisture environments, will not decrease in its physical properties or durability and will not adversely affect the adjacent metal parts, rubber, plastics, and the like.
Abstract:
A composition contains (a) 1 to 40 weight percent of poly(phenylene ether) particles having a mean particle size of 1 to 40 micrometers; and (b) 60 to 99 weight percent of a polyoxymethylene; wherein polystyrene is absent from the poly(phenylene ether) particles; wherein the composition comprises less than 0.1 volume percent, based on the total volume of the composition, of particulate metals, metalloids, oxides thereof, and combinations thereof, wherein the metals and metalloids are selected from iron, copper, aluminum, magnesium, lead, zinc, tin, chromium, nickel, tungsten, silicon, gold, silver, platinum, and alloys thereof. The poly(phenylene ether) particles reduce the density and increase the char yield of the polyoxymethylene. When the composition is prepared at a temperature below the glass transition temperature of the poly(phenylene ether), increased flexural strength can also be obtained. The composition is useful as a molding composition for a variety of articles.
