Abstract:
Abstract:
The present application relates to an artificial joint implant (1) comprising a first element (2) with a socket (4) and a second element (3) with a ball head (5). The socket (4) is at least hemispherical and said ball head (5) is inserted in said socket (4) such as to form a ball-and-socket connection between said first element (2) and said second element (3). Movement of said ball head (5) in said socket (4) is restricted in at least one degree of freedom by means of a at least one protrusion (6.1, 6.2) engaged in a at least one groove (7), wherein said at least one protrusion (6.1, 6.2) is provided on said socket (4) and said at least one groove (7) is provided on said ball head (5) or vice versa.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention include devices and methods for implanting arthroplasty devices. Some embodiments include designs that allow for use of x-ray images as the only images used to fully and accurately preoperatively and intraoperatively size and align arthroplasty device components and prepare all necessary tissue.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Prosthetic artificial joints are described, including hip, knee and shoulder joints. In some embodiments, an artificial joint prosthesis includes: a bone-facing surface of an artificial joint prosthesis, the bone-facing surface configured to face a bone-prosthesis interface in vivo; a first component of the artificial joint prosthesis including a contact surface of the artificial joint prosthesis, the first component fabricated from at least one polymer and a plurality of magnetic particles; and a second component of the artificial joint prosthesis including at least one magnet configured to create a magnetic field within the artificial joint, the at least one magnet positioned to form a magnetic field directed to influence a location of debris including the magnetic particles in the joint to a position distinct from the bone-prosthesis interface in vivo .
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to computer-assisted joint replacement surgery, and corresponding navigation systems. The systems and methods presented find particular use in performing hip replacement surgery. For example, in one embodiment, there is provided a system and method for: (a) measuring a pre-dislocation positional relationship between a patient's pelvis and the patient's femur; (b) performing a post-dislocation femoral registration of the femur; (c) tracking the position of the femur relative to the pelvis during a reduction procedure; (d) calculating a change in leg length and a change in offset, after the reduction procedure, based on the femoral registration and the pre-dislocation positional relationship between the pelvis and the femur; and (e) conveying the change in leg length and the change in offset.
Abstract:
A methodology integrating multiscale analysis and design optimization to design a novel bone replacement implant made of a functionally graded cellular material that meets fatigue requirements imposed by cyclic loadings. The pore microarchitecture, described by interconnectivity, porosity, pore size as well as pore topology, is optimally designed for tissue regeneration and mechanical strength. The method can contribute to the development of a new generation of bone replacement implants with a graded cellular microstructure.
