The present invention includes a method and apparatus for diagnosing a fluid power system and detecting and localizing a fault in the system. The method includes a reference mode for creating a reference dataset and a monitoring mode for monitoring actual system conditions. The actual system conditions are compared to the reference dataset. Variations between the actual and reference data is used to determine a fault condition. System branches which do not show an increase in fluid consumption over the reference data are designated as not having a fault. System branches showing an increase in fluid consumption over the reference data are identified as possibly having a fault. A user is alerted as to the possible faulty branches.

The system monitors vibrations associated with a container and detects signals representative events indicating that an unauthorized access has been made to the container. The system may be programmed with a library of event signatures, allowing different types of events to be detected. Alternatively, the system may be provided with a library of signatures representing piercing the container. The system may be used to monitor containers in transit. The invention involves identification of delamination defects of low-k dielectric layers by analyzing the nonstationary acoustic emission (AE) signal collected during copper damascene (Cu-low k) CMP processes. An offline strategy and a moving window-based strategy for online implementation of the wavelet monitoring approach are developed.

A system for measuring the height of bin content includes a transmitter for transmitting an acoustic pulse towards the upper surface of the content, a non-collinear receiver array for receiving an echo of the pulse and producing signals in response to the echo, and a processing apparatus for computing one or more directions of arrival of the signals from the upper surface to the array along with corresponding measured distances. Preferably, the receivers are transducers that also serve as transmitters. Two or more such measured distances constitute a map of the upper surface for estimating the quantity of the bin content. Preferably, the system includes a pulse shaper and repeater for optimizing the pulse shape relative to the signals.
