Abstract:
An automated sewing system and method for overedge sewing a cuff edge (32) of a knit glove (20) to inhibit the glove cuff edge for unraveling is disclosed. The present invention permits an overedge sewing pattern (30) to be sewn into the seam thereby locking the stitches. The oversew pattern length and run-off angle is maintained consistent between workpieces and is predetermined. A length of thread chain extending from the sewn cuff edge and the length of thread chain remaining on the finished glove is automatically controlled by the present invention. A control circuit (160) operates the sewing machine to progressively advance the cuff edge of the glove through the sewing instrumentalities. The circuit includes a central processing unit (162) which receives inputs from sources such as edge guide sensor (120) and label index sensor (196) and which directs outputs to components such as puller solenoid (184) and tensioning driver (144) thereby automatically controlling the overedge sewing pattern.
Abstract:
There are provided a needle (8) interlocked with a motor (2) for stitching cloth (12), two-shaft drive mechanism (20) for manually moving a cloth pressing part (10) in mutual orthogonal X- and Y-axis direction, an X-axis motor (124) for driving the two-shaft drive mechanism (20), encoders (224, 226) for sensing the angle of rotation of a Y-axis motor (126), X,Y coordinate calculating means for calculating the X and Y coordinates from the origin of the two-shaft drive mechanism (20) based on the values measured by the encoders (224, 226), a RAM (36) for storing then the X and Y coordinates found by the X,Y coordinate calculating means by manually moving the two-shaft drive mechanism (20) to at least one predetermined position of the needle (8), and a forming means for forming a stitch pattern corresponding to the kind of stitch inputted through sewing condition setting keys (56) in a predetermined position.
Abstract:
A sewing unit that can be easily provided, either initially or subsequently, with retaining and folding means (28, 31) for pockets that are to be folded, or with receiving and retaining means (33, 34; 36, 37) for pre-folded pockets, enabling folded or pre-folded pockets to be sewn in a selective manner.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus is disclosed for low cost, high production setting of pockets on tubular shirt bodies. An indexable turret apparatus (25) is provided forming a plurality of radially extending work platforms (30) arranged successively to receive and support and position pocket plies thereover. At successive index positions, the pocket plies are folded and clamped on the front of the shirt bodies, then sewn to the shirts in the desired manner, and then removed and draped over a stacking bar (104), for eventual further processing. A single operator, working at the load station, places the shirt bodies and pocket parts in position, after which successive indexings of the equipment cause the necessary production operations to take place. Although each work platform contains several mechanisms, which are selectively actuated at different index positions, the operating devices for these are mounted on the fixed central turret structure, minimizing the number of actuating devices employed and avoiding the need for slip rings, rotary fluid couplings and the like.
Abstract:
An interchangeable clamp (30) having a plurality of interchangeable members (56, 58, 60) which can be secured together to provide a clamp frame (66) having a predetermined configuration. The predetermined configuration and clamp area of the clamp frame can be changed by substituting the interchangeable members with other interchangeable members having different shapes or sizes. The interchangeable members may be selected from a set of interchangeable members which make it easy for a user to change the configuration of the interchangeable clamp.
Abstract:
A limp material handling system includes a manipulating apparatus (110) for selectively manipulating one or more layers of limp material (242) on a support table (112). Folding is accomplished by lifting a curvilinear region of the material, reshaping that lifted region as desired, and lowering that lifted region to a curvilinear region on the support table. A seamed article assembly system incorporates the manipulating apparatus, a seam joining apparatus (140) and a multiple parallel endless belt system (120, 122, 150, 152) for tactile presentation of the limp material to the seam joining apparatus. An optical sensing system (117) provides information representative of the position of the limp material being handled. A programmable computer, or controller (124), coordinates and controls the operation of the manipulating apparatus, seam joining apparatus, belt assembly, and optical sensing system to provide automatic assembly of seamed articles.
Abstract:
Various examples are provided related to processing and handling of products. In one example, among others, a material product holding system (120) includes a product holding assembly (122) and a structure supporting the product holding assembly, the structure coupled to a positioning assembly (204). The product holding assembly (122) includes support arms (202) and a positioning assembly (204) that can adjust positioning of the support arms with respect to each other to engage with at least a portion of a product supported by the support arms. In another example, a method includes engaging support arms (202) with a surface of at least a portion of a product, the support arms tensioning the product, positioning the support arms (202) to load the product on a workstation, contracting the support arms to remove the tension, processing the product, re-engaging the support arms (202) after completion of the processing, and unloading the product from the workstation.
Abstract:
A suturing assistance system that can be used for prosthetic heart valve manufacturing or suturing procedures. The assistance system includes an automated fixture that includes an articulating arm and a target device holder. The system also includes a vision assist system that projects a visual indicator on the surface of the target device to indicate the location of the next suture to be formed or inspected. The assistance system can include a visualization system configured to display operating procedures to an operator. The visual indicator can guide the operator in performing a sequence of steps to manufacture or inspect a target device. Properties of the visual indicator, such as color and/or shape, can be adjusted or tailored to convey information to the operator during the procedure.
