This invention relates to a piece of equipment intended for being sent through the inside of a pipe, with means to perceive and record irregularities caused by corrosion on the internal wall of the said pipe. It comprises elastomeric elements (1) which may be cups or discs and which are fastened axially at the ends of or along a body (2), which may be rigid or flexible. Also fastened along the body is a sensing unit (3) formed by a plurality of rings (31) which have a plurality of high precision angle sensors (311) fastened radially along the whole perimeter of each ring. Means (4) for recording the distance travelled in the pipe also form part of the pig in this invention. All the signals from all the sensors are transmitted to a microprocessed electronic system.

A Torpedo Pile (100) is described for the anchoring of floating structures used for drilling and production wells for oil and gas, the pile (100) comprising a tapering body (1) provided with fins (20) and a point (30) for embedding in the seabed, its upper end being provided with at least two plates (2) provided with flaps (3), said flaps being capable of inducing a rotation of the articulation elements (4) when a dragging force is exerted on the system. With the continuation of the dragging force, the plates (2) continue to rotate as far as a final configuration, when the points of contact (6) of stops (5) are reached. The pile (100) comprises one embodiment for permanent anchorage and another for temporary anchorage. The method of installation/withdrawal of the two embodiments is also described.

A method of Alzheimer's disease diagnosis and/or diagnosis of MCI in a patient comprising: (i) dermally administering to the patient an amount of an endothelial acting vasodilating agent effective to induce local microvascular dilation in a normal patient; and (ii) detecting local microvascular blood flow change following vasodilating agent administration; wherein Alzheimer's disease and/or MCI is indicated if vasodilating agent induced microvascular dilation is reduced in a statistically significant manner relative to dilation detected in a normal patient population. The invention also relates to a diagnostic kit for detecting Alzheimer's disease and/or MCI.

The present invention relates to a level sensing spray applicator. In one embodiment, the spray applicator includes a gun that receives a liquid and a supply vessel coupled to the gun. The vessel includes a level sensor responsive to the volume retained by the supply vessel. In another aspect, a level-sensing supply vessel includes a level sensor responsive to a volume of liquid retained by the supply vessel, the sensor including a sensor element to detect the volume by sensing a resistance property of the liquid. In still a further aspect, a method of sensing a level of a liquid retained within a storage vessel includes sensing a first liquid volume, removing a portion of the first volume to define a second volume, determining if the second volume is less than a minimum volume, and generating an alarm signal if the second volume is less than the minimum volume.

Disclosed herein are electromagnetic rod devices, systems and methods using the same, for manipulating magnetic particles within a fluid sample well to facilitate processing the magnetic particles for detection of analytes bound thereto. The electromagnetic rods are used to transfer magnetic particles between different sample wells in a multi-step analyte detection procedure and /or to facilitate washing of the magnetic particles within a sample well. The electromagnetic rod devices include an upper portion, and a lower portion configured as a tip or configured to engage a disposable tip sheath. Magnetic particles are alternatively engaged and disengaged with the surface of the tip or the tip sheath by turning the electromagnet on and off at selected times. The electromagnetic rod devices may optionally be configured with an actuator assembly to move the electromagnetic rod devices vertically and/or horizontally in an instrument system configured for performing biological assays.

The invention discloses a method of producing a plant secondary metabolite of interest,comprising: (a) cultivating by suspension culture in a suitable nutrient medium plant cells that produce the secondary metabolite; (b) including within the suspension culture an amount of adsorbent and one or more elicitor agents suitable to increase production of the secondary metabolite; (c)recovering the secondary metabolite from the suspension culture. In a preferred emobidment the invention discloses a method of producing a stilbene plant secondary metabolite of interest, comprising: (a) cultivating by suspension culture in a suitable nutrient medium plant cells that produce a stilbene secondary metabolite; (b) including within the suspension culture an amount of adsorbent and one or more elicitor agents suitable to increase production of the stilbene; (c) recovering the stilbene from the suspension culture.

A method is described for the construction of an arrangement of Extended Reach Wells (ERW) for the production, transport, and exploitation of mineral layers, in that an offshore reservoir of fluids (3) is initially penetrated by an initial well (1), followed by penetration by a multilateral well (2), close to or connected at the end of the drilling section (5) of the multilateral well (2) to the end of the drilling section (7) of the initial well (1). A well of long distance is therefore formed, connected hydraulically at one end (6) of the multilateral well (2) to end (7) of the initial well and to the production unit (8). The resulting long-distance well allows for the drainage of the reservoir in deep and extremely deep water (10) from a platform in shallower water (9).
