    摘要: Water is activated in a reaction chamber using a non-self-maintained glow discharge. A voltage from a power supply (14) is applied between the case wall (30) of the reaction chamber, which serves as an outer electrode, and a plurality of coaxially arranged inner electrodes (31). The voltage comprises an operating impulse voltage and an ionization impulse voltage. Cooling fluid flows through an outer cooling jacket (7) and through holes (35) in the inner electrodes (31). Water to be activated is fed through injectors (33) and flows along the inner surface of the case wall (30) with a depth of 0.3-5 mm. The average value over time of the strength of the operating impulse current may be 20A or more on every pair of opposed electrodes at a voltage of no more than 500V. Adjustment of the strength, frequency and relative pulse duration of the impulse operating current provides for production of activated water with specific properties.

    摘要: An apparatus for remediating a contaminated fluent material, such as a gas, utilizes a pulsed corona discharge. The apparatus includes a reactor section (10) and a power supply section (12). The reactor section (10) has a plurality of first electrodes (16) electrically interconnected to a header plate (14) and a plurality of second electrodes (22) concentrically disposed about each first electrode (16) and electrically interconnected to a reactor plate (20). The placement of the inner electrode (102) within the outer electrode (120) substantially increases the exposed overlapping surface area of the electrodes. The increase in surface area of the electrodes results in a proportional increase in the operational life of the apparatus.

    摘要: A pulsed field treatment apparatus for applying pulsed electric fields to pumpable foodstuffs has an electric field treatment chamber (108) with a first electrode (302) and a second electrode (308). A solid dielectric separator (318) having a dielectric nonconductive spacer separates the first electrode (302) from the second electrode (308) externally of the chamber and has a minimum surface pathway length between the first electrode (302) and the second electrode (308) of at least twice the minimum distance between the first electrode and the second electrode within the chamber. An inlet conduit (304) is connected to the chamber for introducing pumpable foodstuffs and an outlet conduit (306) is also connected to the chamber for discharing pumpable foodstuffs which have passed through the electric field treatment chamber. A high voltage pulser (112) generates electric pulses at the rate of at least 0.01 pulses per second to the first and second electrodes (302, 308) which are excited by the electrical pulses and produce an electric field having an electric field strength of at least 25,000 volts per centimeter. A pump connected to the inlet conduit forces the pumpable foodstuff through the electric field treatment chamber at a rate such that all of the pumpable foodstuff is subjected to at least one electric field pulse during its transit through the electric field treatment chamber.

    摘要: The invention provides a sterilizer, which includes a gas discharge lamp arranged to produce radiation in the ultra violet frequency range of between 100nm and 280nm, a conductive terminal spaced from the gas discharge lamp, and a translucent fluid conduit disposed at least partially between the gas discharge lamp and the conductive terminal, the conduit permitting a fluid to flow between the gas discharge lamp and the conductive terminal. The sterilizer further includes a high voltage source which has a high voltage pulsed output and a high voltage direct current output. Two terminals of the gas discharge lamp are connected to the high voltage pulsed output to create a pulsed signal at the terminals of the gas discharge lamp. The conductive terminal is connected to the high voltage direct current output of the high voltage source such that a high voltage electrical field is created over the isolated fluid conduit.
