Abstract:
An air quality enhancement system that includes an enclosure and an electrostatic particle ionization system. A plurality of objects is located in the enclosure. The enclosure has an interior height that is greater than a height of the objects. The plurality of objects emits particles that become airborne. The electrostatic particle ionization system includes at least one corona point and a corona point mounting mechanism. The corona point mounting mechanism operably mounts the at least one corona point within the enclosure for movement between an extended position and a retracted. When in the extended position, the at least one corona point is closer to the plurality of objects than the enclosure. When in the retracted position, the at least one corona point is closer to the enclosure than the plurality of objects.
Abstract:
Antimicrobial electret material are described. In some embodiments, the materials comprise a unitary web comprising an antimicrobial surface treatment and having certain properties. In other embodiments, an antimicrobial electret material is described comprising an electret web comprising an antimicrobial surface treatment wherein the surface treatment comprises a sparingly soluble silver-containing compound, a photosensitive antimicrobial agent that forms reactive oxygen species, a biguanide compound, or a combination thereof.
Abstract:
In a first aspect, the invention relates to a method for producing air-cleaning filters of the type comprising a set of electrostatically chargeable threads (1'), which are carried by a common, form-stiff body (2), which is made from an initially flexible band (3) and includes ducts (6) through which air may pass from an inlet to the set of threads. According to the invention, the band (3) with the appurtenant threads (1') is inserted between a plurality of dogs (9, 10), at least some of which are brought to move in different directions from initial positions in order to bend the band to a continuous coil, the contour shape of which is determined by the motions of the dogs (9, 10). In a second aspect the invention also relates to an air-cleaning filter as such.
Abstract:
A high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter made from a layer of electrostatically-charged thermoplastic fiber scrim that is point-bonded to a layer of glass fiber batting to form a composite layer defining an area, wherein the point-bonding is distributed over substantially all of the area of the composite layer and the bond points constitute approximately 1 % to approximately 6 % of the total surface area of the welded filter material, and wherein the composite layer is substantially uncompressed. Also, a process for forming the filter by providing an ultrasonic rotary drum having a large number of projections from the surface of the drum, passing a layer of electrostatically-charged thermoplastic fiber scrim resting on top of a layer of glass fiber batting over said drum in such a manner that said projections do not substantially penetrate into the subassembly, and passing the subassembly resting on top of the projections under an ultrasonic horn emitting high frequency sound waves into the subassembly to form point-bonds in the vicinity of the projections.
Abstract:
Novel electret articles containing a polymer and a performance-enhancing additive can be identified by their thermally stimulated conductivity characteristics or their filtration properties. Electret articles such as nonwoven filter webs and respirators exhibits superior oily mist loading performance, low penetration and a small pressure drop. The electret articles are preferably produced by melt-blowing a blend of a polymer and a fluorochemical additive selected from the group consisting of formulae (I), (II) and (III).
Abstract:
There is described a method for controlling the amount of ionised gases and/or particles suspended in the air above roads, streets, open spaces or the like. This is done by establishing an electrical field between the top layer of a road, street, open space or the like, and the said ionised gases and/or particles. By means of controlling the electrical field we will be able to control the amount of ionised gases and/or particles. The invention also indicates how the electrical field can be established between surfaces in the immediate vicinity of a road, street, open space or the like, for example in tunnel walls. The electrical field is established by making at least the top layer of the surface concerned electrically conductive and connecting it to earth or to one pole of an electrical voltage source.
