A liquid cleaning composition consisting of a mixture of carbonaceous solvents, optionally an alcohol, and a non-aromatic miscibility agent such as a glycol ether and preferably a dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether. The composition contains 20-50 % of the non-aromatic miscibility agent and 80-50 % of the aromatic solvent mixture, preferably 30-50 % of the miscibility agent and 70-50 % of the aromatic solvent mixture. The invention provides azeotrope-like compositions consisting essentially of RfOC2H5, where Rf is a branched or straight chain perfluoroalkyl group having 4 carbon atoms, and an organic solvent selected from the group consisitng of: straight chain, branched chain and cyclic alkanes having 6 to 8 carbon atoms; esters having 4 carbon atoms; ketones having 4 carbon atoms; disiloxanes having 6 carbon atoms; cyclic and acyclic ethers having 4 to 6 carbon atoms; chlorinated alkanes having 3 to 4 carbon atoms and chlorinated alkenes having 2 carbon atoms. The compositions are useful for cleaning, as solvents or carriers for coating and as heat transfer materials.

Improved methods and additives for purging thermoplastic extruders and associated apparatus are disclosed which involve the addition of a purging additive to a follower thermoplastic resin which additive when heated causes the follower resin to froth as it passes through the unit, the passage of frothed resin thereby causing the removal of the contents of the unit, which contents includes resident resin along with resident additives, degraded materials and any other undesired materials which may be present in the unit.

Cleaning compositions useful for cleaning wheel soils from surfaces of painted steel, painted aluminum, chrome, stainless steel, clear coated aluminum and plastic are described. The cleaning composition has a pH of about 3 to about 6.5 and comprises at least one acid fluoride salt and at least one organic soil removing agent selected from the group consisting of detergents and organic solvents.
