摘要: A multilayer foil winding in a foil-wound magnetic circuit component (200) has conductors (202, 204, 402, 408) that alternate at various points such that the conductors share current more effectively than multiple non-alternating conductors. AC resistance of the multilayer winding is therefore decreased relative to a single, thicker, layer of foil conductor or a multilayer winding that does not alternate layer positions.

摘要: A heat exchanger (102) for exchanging heat between gasses such as air and a liquid or gaseous coolant has narrow spacing (108) between exchanger surfaces for high efficiency. To avoid undue obstruction of gas flow due to ice buildup on the exchanger surfaces,- the heat exchanger (102) is equipped with sensors (110, 112) to monitor the gas flow and an actuator (116, 118) that widens the spacing (108) between exchanger surfaces such that gas flow remains unimpeded. Embodiments provide for defrosting of the exchanger surfaces when an limit on spacing (108) of exchanger surfaces is reached, and for relaxing the spacing (108) to the original narrow spacing (108) when defrosting is completed.

摘要: Methods of utilizing reduced cellulase loads to hydrolyze cellulosic substrates are disclosed. The methods include determining an amount of purified cellulase necessary to substantially hydrolyze a quantity of cellulosic substrate in a period of time; reducing the amount of purified cellulase by a factor of between 2 and 5 to determine a reduced cellulase load; and introducing to the cellulosic substrate either (1 ) a microorganism expressing cell-bound cellulase in a concentration equal to the reduced cellulase load or (2) a fermentation agent that has been engineered to express cell-bound cellulase in a concentration equal to the reduced cellulase load under suitable conditions and for said period of time sufficient to allow substantial hydrolysis of the cellulosic substrate.

摘要: The present invention relates to the constitutive activity of the Hedgehog pathway in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) . A method for diagnosing NSCLC by detecting the level of a component of the Hedgehog pathway is provided, as is a method for identifying subjects that will respond positively to treatment with a Hedgehog pathway antagonist. Methods for treating subjects with cancer or cancers resistant to Hedgehog pathway antagonists are also provided.

摘要: The present invention is a transgenic non-human animal whose genome contains a transgene containing a nucleic acid encoding a cyclin E protein operably linked to a regulatory element including a lung-specific promoter. The transgenic animals of the present invention have elevated levels cyclin E protein in the lung and have in increased occurrence of lung carcinogenesis. The animals of the instant invention were also found to have increased levels of Gli1 and Shh. Vectors, cells and cell lines are provided, as is a method for identifying a therapeutic agent for the chemoprevention or treatment of lung cancer.

摘要: New triterpenoid derivatives with various substituents at the C-17 position of 2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oic acid (CDDO) were synthesized. Among them, 2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-onitrile (CNDDO), 1-(2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oyl) imidazole, 1-(2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oyl)-2-methylimidazole, 1-(2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9(11)-dien-28-oyl)-4-methylimidazole show extremely high inhibitory activity (IC 50 = 0.01-1 pM level) against production of nitric oxide induced by interferon-γ in mouse macrophages. These compounds can be used in the prevention or treatment of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory diseases. All the new triterpenoid derivatives are more potent than previously known CDDO.
