摘要: The systems and methods disclosed herein relate generally to microbubble-assisted delivery of a therapeutic agent, such as a chemotherapeutic agent, to cells or tissue of interest, either in vitro or in vivo, that can be activated by directed ultrasound irradiation. For example, hydrophobic sonosensitizers can be incorporated in microbubble complexes to provide improved sonodynamic therapies.

摘要: The invention relates to composite multilayer lithium ion battery anodes that include a porous metal alloy foam, and a lithium ion conductor coating applied to the metal alloy foam. The metal alloy foam can include structurally isomorphous alloys of lithium and, optionally, lithium and magnesium. The lithium ion conductor coating can include ternary lithium silicate, such as, lithium orthosilicate. Lithium ions from the ternary lithium silicate may be deposited within the pores of the metal alloy foam. Optionally, the lithium ion conductor coating may include a dopant. The dopant can include one or more of magnesium, calcium, vanadium, niobium and fluorine, and mixtures and combinations thereof.

摘要: The invention relates to biomimetic, biodegradable composites including a magnesium (Mg) alloy mesh and a polymer/extracellular matrix (ECM). These hybrid composites, more particularly, are useful for the fabrication of medical implant devices, e.g., scaffolds, and are effective for bone regeneration. The fabrication process includes creating the Mg alloy mesh, and concurrently electrospinning the polymer and electrospraying the ECM onto the mesh.

摘要: A template for a valve construct for replacement of at least one of a mitral valve and a tricuspid valve includes at least an anterior leaflet portion and at least a posterior leaflet portion, each leaflet portion having a proximal edge, a distal edge, and side edges extending between the proximal edge and the distal edge. A total width of the leaflet portions of the template is substantially equal to a circumference of a native annulus of a heart valve.

摘要: Compounds, pharmaceutical compositions, and methods for reversing fosfomycin resistance are disclosed. Embodiments of the disclosed compounds inhibit fosfomycin-inhibiting enzymes. Some embodiments of the compounds are FosA inhibitors. The disclosed pharmaceutical compositions include (i) fosfomycin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and (ii) a compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which inhibits a fosfomycin-inhibiting enzyme. A method of inhibiting growth of a fosfomycin-resistant bacterium includes contacting the bacterium with (i) fosfomycin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and (ii) an effective amount of a disclosed compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

摘要: The invention relates to ex-situ biosensors that impedimetrically detect one or more target biomarkers of interest in a bodily fluid sample derived from a patient. The biosensors include a multi-array of conducting material, such as platinum wires, having immobilized thereon antibody and/or aptamer that is selected to specifically and selectively bind to the one or more target biomarkers of interest. The biosensors are contacted with a portion of the bodily fluid sample, and the antibody and/or aptamer binds to the target biomarker(s) of interest in the bodily fluid sample. As a result, an electrochemical impedance signal is generated and therefore, a change in the electrochemical impedance is indicative of the presence of the target biomarker(s) of interest in the bodily fluid sample. The biosensors are point-of-care, on-demand devices that can be used in a medical environment, as well as in domestic and health emergency settings.
