Abstract:
A ceramic material having an electronic component embedded therein, and more particularly to a sapphire surface having an electrically energized component embedded within. In some embodiments, the sapphire surface may take the form of a portion of a housing for an electronic device. Since sapphire may be substantially transparent, it may form a cover glass for a display within or forming part of the electronic device, as one example. The cover glass may be bonded, affixed, or otherwise attached to a remainder of the housing, thereby forming an enclosure for the electronic device.
Abstract:
One embodiment of the disclosure includes an input module. The input module includes a switch, a rotatable and translatable input member operably connected to the switch and configured to actuate the switch, and an electrical contact operably connected to the switch and in electrical communication with the input member. During operation, the electrical connection between the input member and the electrical contact is maintained during translation and rotation of the input member. The input module may be used with a variety of electronic devices and can be used by a user to provide input to those devices.
Abstract:
Examples of portable electronic devices including a piezo actuated vibrator for providing tactile feedback to the user are described. Portable electronic devices according to the present disclosure may include tactile feedback devices, which may be driven by a piezoelectric actuator/vibrator (103, 116, 132) that is operatively coupled to or embedded into the housing (112) of a portable electronic device. In some examples, the housing of the electronic device itself can be made of piezoelectric ceramic material. The piezoelectric element may be coupled to the housing of the product to cause the housing to deflect and/or vibrate. In some examples, the housing of the portable electronic device, which may be a portable media player device, may be configured for placement directly or indirectly in contact with the user's skin such that vibrations (120) of the housing may be felt directly (without audible feedback) by the user.
Abstract:
An electronic device having a force sensor that determines a measure of applied force from a user contacting a cover glass element through the use of strain probes.
Abstract:
A system for carrying or using a device includes the device and at least one attachment apparatus. The device may include at least one attachment element. The attachment apparatus may include a length of material and at least one attachment point arranged on an end of the length of material. The at least one attachment point may include at least one magnetic feature configured to attach and detach the device and the length of material. The material can include but is not limited to cloth, metallic (magnetic and non-magnetic), fibrous material, and so forth.
Abstract:
A device configured to determine the location and magnitude of a touch on a surface of the device. The device includes a transparent touch sensor that is configured to detect a location of a touch on the transparent touch sensor. The device also includes a force-sensing structure disposed at the periphery of the transparent touch sensor. The force sensor includes an upper capacitive plate and a compressible element disposed on one side of the upper capacitive plate. The force sensor also includes a lower capacitive plate disposed on a side of the compressible element that is opposite the upper capacitive plate.
Abstract:
A pixel driving circuit includes a storage capacitor, a first, a second, and a third transistor. A method for driving an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display includes controlling the second transistor by a first signal from a gate line such that the second transistor is switched "Off" for a first phase, and "On" for a second phase and a third phase, "Off" for a fourth phase. During the second phase, storing a threshold voltage of the first transistor on the storage capacitor coupled between the gate and the source of the first transistor. During the third phase, supplying a data voltage from a data line to the gate of the first transistor, and switching off the third transistor by a second signal such that the voltage at an anode of the OLED does not vary with pixel location and provides brightness uniformity for the display.
Abstract:
A battery core includes an anode electrode collector and a cathode current collector. The battery core is created by defining an anode solution cavity on an anode electrode collector; defining a cathode solution cavity on a cathode electrode collector; depositing an anode solution into the anode solution cavity; depositing a cathode solution into the cathode solution cavity; curing the anode solution within the anode solution cavity; and curing the cathode solution within the cathode solution cavity. The anode electrode collector and the cathode current collector may be combined in a sandwich configuration and may be separated by one or more separators.
Abstract:
Multi-functional keyboard assemblies include an array of keys formed from stacked component layers. A top portion of the key may be capable of travelling vertically with respect to a base of the key. The top portion can include a keycap and a circuitry module coupled to the keycap. The keys may be capable of receive at least two distinct types of inputs and/or receiving at least one type of input and providing at least one type of output. Such output may include use of one or more light sources, displays, and/or haptic feedback devices.
Abstract:
Examples of tooling fixtures and methods for manufacturing computing devices are described. According to some examples, a computer component may be shaped using successive steps of forging after deep drawing. In some examples, certain components may be assembled to form sub-assemblies of computer components and the sub-assembly may then be machined to drive closer tolerances. According to other examples, a work holding tool is described which may include a first plurality of individually movable pins for supporting a first surface of a work piece, the tool also having a second plurality of individually movable pins for applying a restraining force over a second opposite surface of the work piece to retain the work piece in position while maintaining it in its natural state.
