Abstract: Hollow fiber membranes, membrane contactors, and related production and use methods. The membranes include a substrate having a multiplicity of pores and a skin layer overlaying the porous substrate. The porous substrate includes a first semi -crystalline thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer resin and a nucleating agent in an amount effective to achieve nucleation. The skin layer includes a second semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer resin derived by polymerizing at most 98 wt. % of 4-methyl-1-pentene monomer with at least 2 wt. % of linear or branched alpha olefin monomers. Preferably, the first thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer is different from the second thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer. The skin layer is less porous than the porous substrate and forms an outer surface of the hollow fiber with the porous substrate forming an inner surface. The hollow fibers are formed by co-extruding the porous substrate resin and the skin layer resin through an annular die.

Abstract: A method of applying a pattern to a nonplanar surface. A stamp has a major surface with pattern elements having a lateral dimension of greater than 0 and less than about 5 microns. The major surface of the stamp has a functionalizing molecule with a functional group selected to chemically bind to the nonplanar surface. The stamp is positioned to initiate rolling contact with the nonplanar surface, and contacts the nonplanar surface to form a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of the functionalizing material thereon and impart the arrangement of pattern elements thereto. The major surface of the stamp is translated with respect to the nonplanar surface such that: a contact pressure is controlled at an interface between the stamping surfaces and the nonplanar surface, and a contact force at the interface is allowed to vary while the stamping surfaces and the nonplanar surface are in contact with each other.

Abstract: Nonwoven fibrous webs including a multiplicity of (co)polymeric fibers made of a mixture including from about 50% w/w to about 99% w/w of at least one crystalline polyolefin (co)polymer, and from about 1% w/w to about 40% w/w of at least one hydrocarbon tackifier resin. A process for making the nonwoven fibrous webs includes heating the foregoing mixture to at least a Melting Temperature of the mixture to form a molten mixture, extruding this molten mixture through at least one orifice to form at least one filament, applying a gaseous stream to attenuate the at least one filament to form a plurality of discrete, discontinuous fibers, and cooling the plurality of discrete, discontinuous fibers to a temperature below the Melting Temperature and collecting the discrete discontinuous fibers as a nonwoven fibrous web. The nonwoven fibrous webs exhibit a Heat of Fusion measured using Differential Scanning Calorimetry of greater than 50 Joules/g.

Abstract: A method of forming a fibrin hydrogel composition including providing one or more unitary masses of a fibrin hydrogel, dividing at least one of the unitary masses of the fibrin hydrogel into a multiplicity of smaller pieces of the fibrin hydrogel, and recombining at least a portion of the smaller pieces into a cohesive mass. Dividing at least one of the unitary masses of fibrin hydrogel into a multiplicity of smaller pieces may include shearing or cutting the unitary masses to form an aqueous dispersion of the fibrin hydrogel in an aqueous medium. The aqueous dispersion of fibrin hydrogel may be applied to a substrate on a roller or an endless belt, and is optionally overlaid by a scrim. The cohesive mass of fibrin hydrogel, which may be formed by removing at least a portion of the aqueous medium from the aqueous dispersion of the smaller pieces of the fibrin hydrogel, finds uses in wound dressing articles.
