Abstract:
The invention relates to compositions and methods for solid freeform fabrication of medical devices, components and applications in which the composition includes a thermoplastic polyurethane which is particularly suited for such processing. The useful thermoplastic polyurethanes are derived from (a) an aromatic diisocyanate component, (b) a polyol component, and (c) a chain extender component where the molar ratio of (c) to (b) is at least 4.25.
Abstract:
A homogenous film formed from a cross-linked poly(acrylic) acid and a thermoplastic polyurethane composition is disclosed. The film exhibits fluid absorption properties and good mechanical properties. The films provide useful materials for medical and pharmaceutical applications.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method for reducing low speed pre-ignition events in a spark-ignited direct injection internal combustion engine by supplying to the sump a lubricant composition which contains an oil of lubricating viscosity and an ashless dispersant. The ashless dispersant may be selected from succinimide compounds prepared from aliphatic or aromatic amines.
Abstract:
A thermoformable dual network hydrogel composition formed from a cross-linked polymer derived from one or more olefinically unsaturated polymerizable carboxylic monomers and one or more thermoplastic polyurethane compositions is disclosed. The hydrogel exhibits high elastic modulus and Yield Stress at low shear, and a moderate but significant adhesion force. The hydrogel composition provides useful materials for personal care, health care, medical and pharmaceutical applications, among others.
Abstract:
A biocidally active polymer composition formed from an oligomeric or polymeric additive and a thermoplastic polyurethane polymer is disclosed. The biocidally active polymer may further include a non-fouling and/or non-thrombogenic polymer. The biocidally active polymer provides biocidally active properties, and may also provide non-fouling and/or non-thrombogenic properties. The composition is particularly useful in articles and materials for medical applications.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device (such as an internal combustion engine) with a lubricating composition. The invention further relates to the use of the lubricating composition for an internal combustion engine to provide improved fuel economy and providing at least one of (i) wear reduction, (ii) control of corrosion, (iii) cleanliness, and (iv) soot control.
Abstract:
A system and method for producing a bioabsorbable thermoplastic polyurethane tailored to a medical application are provided. The method includes identifying suitable thermoplastic polyurethane properties based on the medical application. The thermoplastic polyurethane comprises units derived from a diol chain extender, a diisocyanate, and a polyol. The thermoplastic polyurethane properties include a biodegradation rate and at least one physical property. The method includes identifying a base thermoplastic polyurethane and altering at least one parameter of the base thermoplastic polyurethane which relates to the desired thermoplastic polyurethane properties to generate a candidate thermoplastic polyurethane. The altering may be performed iteratively until the suitable range of thermoplastic polyurethane properties based on the medical application is met.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of a substantially sulfur-free alkyl phosphate amine salt, where at least 30 mole percent of the phosphorus atoms are in an alkyl pyrophosphate salt structure, exhibits good antiwear performance, even in the presence of corrosion inhibitor additives. In the phosphate amine salt, at least 80 mole percent of the alkyl groups are typically secondary alkyl groups of 3 to 12 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method for reducing low speed pre-ignition events in a spark-ignited direct injection internal combustion engine by supplying to the sump a lubricant composition which contains an oil of lubricating viscosity and an overbased sodium detergent. The metal overbased detergent may be selected from sulfonate detergents, phenate detergents, and salicylate detergents, especially sulfonate detergents with a metal ratio of at least 5.
