    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for singulating articles in a singulating conveyor having an elimination, or separation, conveyor to strip articles not in single file and recirculate or redirect them. The elimination conveyor has a pass-through conveyor belt portion that passes articles received single file from an infeed conveyor off the downstream end of the singulator and a laterally adjacent second conveyor belt portion with rollers that rotate to divert articles not in single file toward or off the side of the elimination conveyor. A recirculation conveyor receives articles diverted off the side of the elimination conveyor and returns them to the infeed conveyor. For refeeding diverted articles to the singulating conveyor downstream, a conveyor receiving articles from the downstream end of the second conveyor belt provides a path parallel to the pass-through articles and feeds them onto a downstream registration conveyor to merge back into the flow.

    Abstract: Conveying systems and method for measuring accelerations in a conveyor advancing through process equipment and taking remedial and prophylactic action in response. The conveyor system includes a conveyor with embedded accelerometers making measurements conveyor accelerations. A controller uses the measurements to control the speed of the conveyor to compensate for unwanted accelerations or to damp the unwanted accelerations. The controller can also use the measurements to warn of unwanted accelerations or to predict the failure of associated or nearby equipment so that maintenance can be scheduled and to detect imminent failures and shut down the process.

    Abstract: An elevating belt conveyor (14) and a method for conveying articles up steep inclines. The conveyor has a series of support elements (24) extending outward from the article-conveying surface (22) of a conveyor belt (16) advancing upward along a steep incline. The support elements prevent conveyed articles from sliding down the conveyor belt on the incline. A closely positioned hugger belt (28) facing the article-conveying surface of the conveyor belt advances in the same direction to provide a low-friction retention surface (30) to articles leaning away for the conveyor belt on the incline.     Abstract: An elevating belt conveyor and a method for conveying articles up steep inclines. The conveyor has a series of support elements extending outward from the article-conveying surface of a conveyor belt advancing upward along a steep incline.     Abstract: Apparatus for diverting a stream of articles from one conveyor to another parallel conveyor moving in an opposite direction in a conveyor bed. A diverter element (44) is attached to a carrier that is driven along a path parallel to the two conveyors by a differential drive mechanism coupled to the drive mechanisms of the two conveyors. The differential drive mechanism responds to the difference in the speeds of the two conveyor drive mechanisms to drive the carrier and position the diverter element along the parallel conveyors. The diverter element (44) extends at least partway across the widths of the two conveyors to guide articles on one conveyor to the other.
