Abstract:
The invention relates to a catalyst system for polyester synthesis, the catalyst system comprising at least 10 ppm of an alkali metal salt of paratoluene sulphonic acid and at least 50 ppm of antimony. The invention also relates to a process for polyester synthesis, to the polyester and to the articles prepared thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses an efficient process for the production of high molecular weight polyester resin having IV of about 0.5 dl/g to about 1.2 dl/g from low molecular weight prepolymer having IV of about 0.2 dl/g to about 0.45 dl/g by adding a Lewis acid such as sulfonic acid at any steps during the esterification step or the melt polymerization step but before a particle former process to reduce the oligomer volatilization during solid state polymerization. The Lewis acid such as sulfonic acid is selected from methane sulfonic acid, para toluene sulfonic acid, toluene sulfonic acid, benzene sulfonic acid or xylene sulfonic acid. The present invention also discloses a low molecular weight crystalline prepolymer having IV of about 0.2 dl/g to about 0.45 dl/g and high molecular weight polyester resin having IV of about 0.5 dl/g to about 1.2 dl/g produced by the above process.
