Abstract: The present embodiments generally relate to methods and compositions comprising one or more polymers which gradually increase in charge, thereby providing for an increase in viscosity in an aqueous solution or aqueous composition, such as when present in a desired aqueous environment. Use of such compositions and methods comprising one or more polymers which gradually increase in charge, thereby providing for an increase in viscosity in an aqueous solution or aqueous composition during enhanced oil recovery may result in an increase in oil production relative to methods and/or compositions which do not comprise one or more polymers which gradually increase in charge, thereby providing for an increase in viscosity in an aqueous solution or aqueous composition.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus or systems useful in the treatment of tailings are provided, e.g., oil sands tailings, and mature fine tailings. These methods and apparatus or system used therein comprise the combined use of electrocoagulation and chemical flocculation effected using one or more flocculants. The combined use of electrocoagulation and chemical flocculation in these methods and using these apparatus or system results in improvements such as improved removal of fine, slow settling clay particles, persistent contaminants, and/or residual bitumen; lower solids content, lower turbidity, and lower carbon oxygen demand ("COD").

Abstract: The present embodiments generally relate to the treatment of produced water such as produced water resulting from an industrial process such as one involving the use of copious amounts of water and the addition of one or more polymers such as viscosifying or thickening polymers, in particular enhanced oil recovery processes or another processes resulting in polymer flooded produced water. These treatment methods include contacting the produced water with one or more reducing agents and one or more metals, wherein said treatment may result in a reduction of the viscosity of said produced water and/or the degradation of polymers which are contained therein.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method of making a paper comprising the steps of: a) providing a cationic wet strength resin comprising a polyamidoamine epihalohydrin, a condensation copolymer of epihalohydrin and amine, or combination thereof; b) providing an anionic polymer; c) co-mixing the cationic wet strength resin and the anionic polymer to provide a composition comprising polyelectrolyte complexes; d) providing an aqueous pulp slurry, draining the aqueous pulp slurry on a screen to form a wet fiber web, and drying the wet fiber web to obtain the paper, wherein said co-mixed composition is introduced to the aqueous pulp slurry or on the formed wet fiber web. Embodiments of the present invention further relates to a paper wet strength composition, its use in paper making and a paper obtainable therefrom.

Abstract: Re-crosslinkable interpenetrating polymer network preformed particle gels (IPN PPGs) and compositions containing re-crosslinkable IPN PPGs, are provided, as well as methods of re-crosslinking the re-crosslinkable IPN PPGs with ionic crosslinkers, and the resultant re-crosslinked IPN PPG compositions. In addition, the use of the re-crosslinkable and re-crosslinked IPN PPGs are provided, e.g., in methods, processes, and techniques related to enhanced oil recovery, e.g., conformance control, wherein the use of said re-crosslinked IPN PPGs may improve hydrocarbon recovery, e.g., by improving sweep efficiency. These re-crosslinked IPN PPGs are also useful in water and gas shutoff, fluid loss control, zone abandonment, water and gas coning, squeeze and recompletion, chemical liner completions and lost circulation during drilling operations and plugging during drilling and drilling completion.
