The present disclosure describes embodiments for reducing collisions for SRS transmitted to cells using comb4 mode and comb2 mode. In an embodiment, the SRS data included in the SRS signals is reordered such that SRS signals transmitted to a cell operating in comb4 mode do not collide with SRS signals transmitted to a cell operating in comb2 mode. In an additional or alternative embodiment, the SRS signals transmitted to a cell operating in comb4 mode are redefined such that the SRS signals transmitted to the cell operating in comb 4 mode do not collide with SRS signals transmitted to a cell operating in comb2 mode.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure supportdemodulation reference signal (DMRS) enhancement for higher order multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) communications. An example method generally includes determining a plurality of ports of a multi-dimensional array of transmit antennas and a number of spatial multiplexed layers for transmission to a plurality of user equipments (UEs), configuring a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) pattern by multiplexing the layers or the ports in the DMRS pattern, using an orthogonal cover code (OCC) and one or more code division multiplexing (CDM) groups, and transmitting DMRS symbols based on the configured DMRS pattern using the multiplexed layers and the ports.

Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method includes mapping a number of channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources and a number of CSI-RS antenna ports to a plurality of CSI-RS resource elements in a resource block, where the number of CSI-RS antenna ports are associated with the number of CSI-RS resources; and transmitting at least two spatially separated CSI-RSs on each of at least one resource element based at least in part on the mapping. Another method includes receiving at least a first CSI-RS and a second CSI-RS on a resource element of a resource block; and differentiating the first CSI-RS from the second CSI-RS based at least in part on a spatial separation between the first CSI-RS and the second CSI-RS.
