Abstract:
Solvents for pesticides and pesticide formulations are provided, said solvents comprise an ether ester of Formula (1): wherein R 1 and R 2 are each independently one of an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an aryl group, wherein R 3 is hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl, and wherein n is 1 to 6.
Abstract:
A method for the direct reduction of metal oxides with carbon. According to the method, pellets are formed containing a mixture of metal oxides having sequential reduction potentials when heated in the presence of carbon and an amount of carbon sufficient to reduce more easily reduced of the metal oxides yet insufficient to reduce all of the metal oxides. The pellets are heated to a temperature at least sufficient to reduce the more easily reduced metal oxides to produce direct reduction metal while removing sufficient of the carbon in the form of oxides of carbon during the reduction to avoid a subsequent decarburization step in further processing of the direct reduction metal.

The invention generally relates to novel methods of measuring the effectiveness of a drug for the treatment of diabetes and methods of diagnosing diabetes. In some embodiments of the invention, IL-1Ra is used as a biomarker to measure the effectiveness of a drug for the treatment of diabetes.
Abstract:
Compositions containing a transporter component and a signaling component and a method for using said compositions for analyzing porous media and flowing liquid streams, specifically for measuring pressure, temperature, relative abundance of water, pH, redox potential and electrolyte concentration. Analytes may include petroleum or other hydrophobic media, sulfur-containing compounds. The transporter component includes an amphiphilic nanomatenal and a plurality of solubilizing groups covalently bonded to the transporter component. The signaling component includes a plurality of reporter molecules associated with the transporter component. Said reporter molecules may be releasable from the transporter component upon exposure to at least one analyte. The reporter molecules may be non-covalently associated with the transporter component, or the reporter molecules are covalently bonded to the transporter component. Furthermore, said compositions and methods may be used to actively enhance oil recovery and for remediation of pollutants.
Abstract:
A once-daily controlted-release formulation of diacerein for treating inflammatory or autoimmune diseases or their complications, with reduced adverse side effects and methods of treating such diseases are disclosed.
Abstract:
A method and a system of credit risk control use different incentive mechanisms for different type of users for post-loan credit risk control. The method classifies the user to one of several different user types based on the user information and a correspondence relationship between the user information and risk levels, and selects an appropriate incentive mechanism for risk control based on the user type. The incentive mechanisms may either be a positive incentive mechanism or a negative incentive mechanism depending on the user type. The incentive mechanisms are performed over a network, and are designed to encourage a user of good loan payment record but to discourage a user of bad loan payment record. The method and the system are particularly suited for risk control of repayment of various kinds of loans which are applied and disbursed over the Internet.
Abstract:
A semiconductor substrate processing apparatus and a method for processing semiconductor substrates are provided. The semiconductor substrate processing apparatus may include a liquid container where a semiconductor substrate may be immersed in a semiconductor processing liquid. The semiconductor substrate may then be removed from the semiconductor processing liquid while vapor is directed at a surface of the semiconductor substrate where the semiconductor substrate contacts a surface of the processing liquid.
Abstract:
There is a solar water heater system. The system has the following: a sealed storage tank, a reflective surface, and a vacuum tube. The sealed storage tank is adapted to retain water. The tank has situated at an outer surface thereof a thermal insulating layer of a closed-cell polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam having a blowing agent therein having about 60 wt% or more of 1, 1, 1, 3, 3- pentafluoropropane therein. The reflective surface is capable of reflecting sunlight. The vacuum tube extends along the reflecting surface between the reflecting surface and the sun. The vacuum tube is in communication with the tank. There is also an outdoor insulative storage tank system.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to nanoscale heterostructures and, in some cases, to nanowire heterostructures exhibiting ballistic transport, and/or to metal-semiconductor junctions that that exhibit no or reduced Schottky barriers. One aspect of the invention provides a solid nanowire having a core and a shell, both of which are essentially undoped. For example, in one embodiment, the core may consist essentially of undoped germanium and the shell may consist essentially of undoped silicon. Carriers are injected into the nanowire, which can be ballistically transported through the nanowire. In other embodiments, however, the invention is not limited to solid nanowires, and other configurations, involving other nanoscale wires, are also contemplated within the scope of the present invention. Yet another aspect of the invention provides a junction between a metal and a nanoscale wire that exhibit no or reduced Schottky barriers. As a non-limiting example, a nanoscale wire having a core and a shell may be in physical contact with a metal electrode, such that the Schottky barrier to the core is reduced or eliminated. Still other aspects of the invention are directed to electronic devices exhibiting such properties, and techniques for methods of making or using such devices.
Abstract:
A polishing pad has a polishing layer and a backing layer secured to the polishing layer. The polishing layer has a polishing surface, a first thickness, a first compressibility, and a hardness between about 40 to 80 Shore D. The backing layer has a second thickness equal to or less than the first thickness and has a second compressibility greater than the first compressibility. The first thickness, first compressibility, second thickness and second compressibility are such that the polishing surface deflects more than the thickness non-uniformity of the polishing layer under an applied pressure of 1.5 psi or less.
