Abstract: An engine (2) is described having a crankcase (4), a liner and a head assembly (8). The crankcase is split along a plane (60) defining a two part crankcase (18, 20), where fluid passages (100, 106, 120, 150, 152) are passing through only one of the crankcase portions, so as to not require crossing the split line. A connecting rod (265) also includes a tapered end, and the piston has a complementary carrier receiving the connecting rod.
