Abstract:
The invention relates to a catheter (1) for administering anaesthetics to a peripheral nerve site in a patient. The catheter (1) comprises a hollow, flexible catheter tube (2) having a first inner lumen (3) extending along a longitudinal axis of the catheter tube (2) from a proximal end (4) to a distal end (5) where a balloon (6) is arranged. The balloon (6) is adapted to be inflated from a collapsed state to an inflated state by a fluid fed through the catheter tube (2) into an inner cavity (7) of the balloon (6). The inflated balloon (6) is used to ensure that the distal end of the catheter (1) stays at the desired position at the peripheral nerve site. The catheter (1) may comprise a second lumen (10), so that the balloon (6) is inflated via one lumen and the anaesthetics is administered via the other lumen. The invention further relates to a needle-catheter kit and for a method of administering anaesthetics by use of such a catheter.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to antagonists or inhibitors, which bind selectively to RANKL/OPGbp and regulate the interaction between RANKL/OPGbp and RANK/OPG.In particular, the present invention relates to an antibody or antigen binding domain, fragment or derivative thereof, immunoreactive with a RANKL/OPGbppeptidefor use in the treatment, prevention or alleviation of male infertility or reduced male fertility such as oligospermia or azospermia.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to wound care products, devices and methods incorporating acetic acid for the treatment of bacterial infections, in particular bacterial biofilm infections. In particular it relates to a wound care product comprising acetic acid, wherein the product comprises at least one further antibacterial compound; a delivery system comprising a container connected to a means of delivery which is connected to a pad, wherein said container comprises a composition comprising acetic acid and said pad comprises a self-adhesive material; a kit comprising a dressing and an adhesive membrane, wherein the dressing comprises a composition comprising acetic acid; a method of treating a wound comprising a) applying acetic acid to the wound and b) applying a negative pressure to the wound.
Abstract:
A system for injecting a substance into a human body comprises a tubular member (1105) with an outlet opening for injecting the substance, a pump with an inlet connectable to a supply of the substance and to receive the substance from the supply, and an outlet connectable to the tubular member for delivering the substance to the tubular member, means (1106) for sensing a movement and/or a position of the tubular member relative to the body, and control means for controlling the pumpto deliver the substance at a rate related to the sensed movement and/or position of the tubular member relative to the body. The system is particularly useful for injecting a filler substance such as adipose tissue cells or a synthetic filling substance for cosmetic, reconstructive or otherwise therapeutic purposes.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to use of sodium diacetate (NaHAc 2 ) as an antimicrobial agent against bacteria growing in biofilms. The aspects of the invention include a wound care product comprising sodium diacetate, a kit comprising a wound care product, and a methodof treating an infected wound.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods for improving the ability of spermatozoa to fertilize an egg in vitro and/or vivo, said method comprising providing a medium comprising active vitamin D (calcitriol) or analogs thereof, providing a sample of spermatozoa, and incubating said sample of spermatozoa with said medium. In addition, the invention relates to compositions comprising active vitamin D or analogs thereof for use in the treatment of infertility in a male or female subject.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to a method for predicting the fertility potential in a male mammal. In particular it relates to a method for predicting the fertility potential in a male mammal by determining the expression of at least one protein of the vitamin D metabolising machinery in a semen sample. The expression level of the at least one protein of the vitamin D metabolising machinery is then indicative of the fertility potential of the subject. An object of the present invention relates to a method, which can predict whether the semen quality is sufficient to achieve pregnancy spontaneously or if the couple should proceed to assisted reproduction or further investigation.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a thermal shield 1 for at least partly surrounding a newborn infant by the shield 1 to protect it from undesired cooling or heating. The shield 1 comprises a first layer 3 and a second layer 4 both of a transparent material, which layers 3,4 are joined so that there is at least one air containing pocket 5 between the layers 3,4. When the thermal shield 1 is in use, the mutual arrangement of the first and second layers 3,4 allows the at least one pocket to be deformable to an amount necessary for establishment of acoustic contact between the skin of the infant 10 and an acoustic transducer 11 placed on an outer surface of the second layer 4. In some embodiments of the thermal shield, the at least one air containg pocket 5 is air tight, and acoustic contact can be established over an area of at least 1 cm 2 . In other embodiments, there is at least one open passage 13 from the surroundings and into each of the at least one air pocket 5 between the first and second layers 3,4, and the compliance of the first layer 3 is higher than the complicance of the second layer 4 so that when an infant is placed in the shield 1, the first layer 3 clings around the infant while the second layer 4 deforms to a lesser extent than the first layer 3 so that air from the surroundings flows into the at least one air pocket 5 via the open passage 13.
