Abstract: A reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) may include multiple sub-RIS, and the base station may configure the RIS and the multiple sub-RIS with RIS sync raster including multiple center frequencies. The RIS may be configured to simultaneously apply different water-markings and reflect the incident beam into different beams in different directions. The base station may perform a beam-sweeping by transmitting synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) on multiple SSB beams, and the RIS may receive one SSB beam of the multiple SSB beams and reflect the SSB beams on the RIS sync raster. A UE may be configured to monitor the base sync raster and the RIS sync raster for a suitable SSB beam, and transmit a feedback report to the base station indicating the suitable beam. The base station may configure the RIS based on the feedback report received from the base station for beam management.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to beam sweeping with controllable reflective surfaces in the presence of co-located base stations of different network operators. A first base station that is co-located at a site with a second base station may perform a first beam sweep. The first beam sweep includes transmitting a plurality of directional beams. The first base station further transmits a control signal to a controllable reflective surface to control the controllable reflective surface to reduce a likelihood of a redirection of a directional beam of a potential second beam sweep by the second base station towards a user equipment associated with the second base station. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for configuring a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) for wireless communication. A method that may be performed by a base station (BS) includes transmitting one or more parameters corresponding to a time period for the RIS to adapt to user equipment (UE) configuration information, the UE configuration information for configuring the RIS for RIS-assisted communication between the BS and a UE, the one or more parameters comprising a number of symbols indicative of a duration of time. The method also includes transmitting, via the RIS and separately from transmitting the one or more parameters, a control channel to the UE scheduling communication of a data channel with the UE via the RIS. The method also includes communicating, via the RIS, the data channel with the UE the duration of time after transmitting the control channel to the UE.

The UE may receive a message indicating at least a first resource set associated with one or more first beams from the plurality of beams and a second resource set associated with one or more second beams from the plurality of beams. The UE may transmit a report indicative of a level of correlation between pairs of individual beams, each pair including a first individual beam of the one or more first beams and a second individual beam of the one or more second beams, and the UE may communicate with the base station via a selected beam of the one or more first beams or the one or more second beams.

Abstract: A UE receives a first RRC configuration associated with a reference signal, performs a measurement of the reference signal and receives information identifying at least one beam configuration selected by a first UE for a transmission from a first base station to the first UE via an RIS, transmits to at least one base station an indication of a null space based on the measurement of the reference signal and the at least one beam configuration selected by the first UE. In some aspects, the UE may be configured to receive a first RRC configuration associated with a reference signal, perform a measurement of the reference signal for multiple beam configurations associated with a transmission from a base station to the first UE via an RIS and transmit, to a second UE, an indication of at least one beam configuration based on the measurement.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive a configuration for a transmission configuration state for receiving downlink channel transmissions from a base station via a configurable surface. The transmission configuration state may indicate a quasi-co-location source associated with transmission via the configurable surface. The UE may receive a downlink channel transmission via the configurable surface based on the transmission configuration state and the quasi-co-location source. The UE may be capable of determining whether the transmission configuration state conflicts with the quasi-co-location source indicated by the transmission configuration state. The UE may transmit an indication to the base station that the configuration for the transmission configuration state conflicts with the quasi-co-location source. The indication may include a beam failure indication or a measurement report. The UE may fall back to a transmission configuration state previously activated at the UE.

A reconfigurable reflective surface may exploit signals transmitted from a user equipment (UE) to communicate feedback to a base station. For example, the surface may communicate feedback by reflecting two or more reference signals according to two or more configurations. In some cases, the two or more configurations may be phase shifted relative each other. In another example, the surface may communicate feedback by altering the intensity of or more reference signals transmitted from the UE. In yet another example, the surface may communicate feedback to the base station by reflecting reference signals towards one or more antenna arrays. In some cases, the one or more antenna arrays may be located at a single base station. In some other cases, the one or more antenna arrays may be located at multiple base stations or multiple transmission/reception points.

The UE may then transmit, to the base station via the reconfigurable surface at a second transmission occasion, a second reference signal associated with a second reflection matrix configuration used by the reconfigurable surface to reflect signals, the second reflection matrix configuration included within the set of reflection matrix configurations. The UE may then communicate with the base station via the reconfigurable surface based on transmitting the first reference signal, the second reference signal, or both.

In a wireless communications system, a user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of a configuration (e.g., via control signaling) of a set of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). The UE may select a primary RIS for bidirectional wireless communication (e.g., uplink and downlink) and one or more secondary RISs for unidirectional wireless communication (e.g., uplink or downlink) based on the configuration. The UE may use the one or more secondary RISs to enable higher throughput and extended coverage in the wireless communication system. The UE may communicate with the base station using the primary RIS, or the secondary RIS, or both.

A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station via a reconfigurable surface, a set of reference signals reflected by the reconfigurable surface using a set of precoder configurations. In some aspects, the set of reference signals are transmitted within a set of reference signal occasions of a sweep procedure associated with configuring the reconfigurable surface with different precoder configurations of the set of precoder configurations for reflecting signals. The UE may additionally transmit, to the base station via the reconfigurable surface, a feedback message including an indication of at least one precoder configuration of the set of precoder configurations based on receiving the set of reference signals. The UE may then receive, from the base station via the reconfigurable surface, a downlink transmission based on transmitting the feedback message.
