Abstract:
Non-invasive methods, compositions and kits for determining the relative risk that one or more embryos is mosaic are provided. These methods, compositions and kits find use in identifying embryos in vitro that are most useful in treating infertility in humans.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods for increasing the rate of CO 2 assimilation in photosynthetic cells and plants. The invention involves reducing or preventing lipid recycling, and/or expressing modified oleosins with artificially introduced cysteine residues in the photosynthetic cells and plants. The invention also provides methods for increasing oil production in plants, via expression of modified oleosins with artificially introduced cysteine residues in the non-photosynthetic tissues/organs of plants. The method also optionally includes the step of extracting the oil from the non-photosynthetic tissues/organs of the plant, or processing the oil rich non-photosynthetic tissues/organs into animal or biofuel feedstocks.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for treating and/or preventing mucostitis with one or more compounds, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, disclosed herein, or compositions comprising the same.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing wire comprising aluminum oxide particles formed in situ in a fully dense matrix of titanium aluminide intermetallic material by means of the combustion synthesis of aluminum and titanium oxide followed by thermo-mechanical forming. The pre-combustion aluminum may be elemental, or an aluminum alloy containing one or more of the elements vanadium, niobium, molybdenum, or boron. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is an electric power transmission cable comprising a plurality of wires manufactured according to the present invention.
Abstract:
A surgical instrument (10) for removing a sample (50, 82) from a body of tissue (80) comprises a support structure (30) and a knife (32) arranged to cut into the body of tissue (80). The knife (32) has at least a first blade (36a), a second blade (36b) and a third blade (36c), and each blade has two cutting edges (42a, 44a; 42b, 44b; 42c, 44c) defining an apex. The knife (32) is movable between a first configuration in which the blades (36a, 36b, 36c) are substantially aligned along the longitudinal axis (X) of the support structure (30), and a second configuration in which the blades (36a, 36b, 36c) define the walls of a pyramidal enclosure for containing the sample (50, 82). In one embodiment, the instrument (10) further comprises a biasing member (52a, 52b, 52c) arranged to urge each blade (36a, 36b, 36c) towards the central axis (X) of the support structure (30). In another embodiment, the instrument (10) further comprises a plunger (72) disposed in, and being axially movable in a longitudinal direction along, the support structure (30). The plunger (72) is arranged to move the knife (32) between the first configuration and the second configuration.
Abstract:
A seal assembly for a fluid coupling includes: (a) a generally planar, substantially rigid seal retainer with opposed first and second faces, having an annular first groove formed in the first face; (b) a first resilient seal disposed in the first groove; and (c) an annular first backup ring positioned radially outboard of the first resilient seal and secured to the first resilient seal, wherein the first backup ring is substantially harder than the first resilient seal.
Abstract:
Techniques for configuring wireless communications devices are disclosed. For instance, an apparatus may include a storage medium to store one or more configuration files, and a configuration module. Each of the one or more configuration files may correspond to a network carrier. The configuration module selects one of the configuration files and to extract one or more operational parameters from it. This selected configuration file and the one or more operational parameters correspond to a designated network carrier.
Abstract:
This invention relates to improvements in and relating to oil production in plants and seeds. In particular, this invention relates to methods and constructs for increasing the ratio of oleosin/polyoleosin to TAG synthesising enzymes in seeds, or for producing oleosin/polyoleosin and TAG synthesising enzymes in plants, including in the vegetative portions, or for modulating the amount of TAG synthesising enzymes produced in plants. The invention also relates to new plants comprising nucleic acid sequences comprised by such constructs.
Abstract:
A cooled exhaust duct (10) for use in gas turbine engines is provided. The cooled exhaust duct (10) includes an axial centerline (18), a circumference, an annulus (20), and a plurality of radially expandable bands (22). The annulus (20) is disposed between a first wall (24) and a second wall (26), and extends along the axial centerline (18). The first wall (24) is disposed radially inside of the second wall (26). Each of the plurality of radially expandable bands (22) extends circumferentially within the annulus (20). The bands (22) are axially spaced apart from one another. Each band (22) includes a first portion (32) attached to the first wall (24), a second portion (34) attached to the second wall (26) and an intermediate portion (36) connected to the first and second portions (32, 34). The bands (22) create circumferentially extending compartments that inhibit axial travel of the cooling air within the annulus (20).
