Abstract: A liquid dispenser includes an outer tube (2) with a discharge opening formed in its side wall and an inner tube (4), which is at least partially accomodated within the outer tube and defines with it an annular space, which accomodates an annular sealing member (20), which forms a peripheral seal with the inner and outer tubes. The other end of the outer tube is adapted for connection to a liquid container. A liquid flow opening (30) is formed in the wall of the inner tube and the inner tube is movable longitudinally within the outer tube between an open position, in which the liquid flow opening communicates with the discharge opening (14), and a closed position, in which the liquid flow path is sealed. An air flow passage with two ends is formed in the inner tube, which is so arranged that when the inner tube is in the open position one of the ends communicates with the discharge opening and the air flow passage.

Abstract: A drinking cap includes a first tubular portion (10) for connection to the mouth of a beverage container and an elongate actuating member (26) situated at least partly within the first tubular portion (10) and connected to it by a resilient, annular, integral web (12), in which one or more flow openings (28) are formed. The actuating member (26) is longitudinally movable in the axial direction between an open position of the flow openings (28) and a closed position thereof. The cap also includes an insert (6) and a piston (4) which together define a reservoir (56). The insert (6) includes a cylindrical wall (34) and a portion (40) which is movable under the action of pressure within the reservoir and in which a discharge aperture (44) is formed. A flow tube (52) is connected to the piston (4) around an aperture (50) and extends through the discharge aperture (44) in the insert (6) and forms a sliding seal with the edge (46) of the discharge aperture. The actuating member (26) is arranged to engage the piston (4) when it is moved from the closed position to the open position and thus to move the piston (4) towards the insert (6), whereby the increased pressure created in the reservoir (56) causes the movable portion (4) of the insert (6) to move away from the piston (4) until the flow tube (52) moves out of the discharge aperture (44) in the insert (6).

Abstract: A beverage container comprises a bottle (2) which has a central axis (3) and is sealed by a lid of resilient material. The bottle includes a neck (8) defining an opening and the lid includes a closure plate (30, 32), integral with which is a depending skirt (18) extending around the outer surface of the neck. The skirt (18) carries an annular flange (20) which is in sealing engagement with the underside of a downwardly directed annular shoulder (14) on the outer surface of the neck. The annular flange (20) is elongate in axial sectional view and is connected to the skirt (18) by an integral hinge connection (22). The end surface of the free end of the annular flange (20) is in sealing engagement with the underside of the shoulder (14). The internal surface of the skirt carries an annular protuberance (52) which is in sealing engagement with one side surface of the annular flange (20). The other side surface is in sealing engagement with the outer surface of the neck of the bottle, whereby an annular chamber (54) is defined by the inner surface of the skirt (18), the said one side surface of the annular flange (20), the protuberance (52) and the hinge (22). A rip tab (24) is provided integrally connected to the integral hinge (22). Abstract: The invention relates to a method of snap-fitting a lid to a container (2) including a neck (8), which defines the mouth of the container and on whose outer surface there is a downwardly directed shoulder (14). The lid also includes a closure plate (30, 32) connected to a depending peripheral skirt (18), connected to which by a resilient hinge (22) is a retaining flange (20). The method includes moving the lid and container relatively towards one another to bring the retaining flange (20) into contact with the upper edge of the neck (8), thereby causing the retaining flange (20) to rotate about the hinge (22) until the free end of the flange (20) moves past the shoulder (14). The retaining flange (20) is then rotated in the opposition direction towards the neck (8) of the container by the resilience of the hinge and engages beneath the shoulder (14), thereby restraining relative movement of the lid and receptacle away from one another. The side surface of the free end of the retaining flange (20) is urged into sealing engagement with the outer surface of the neck (8) by the resilience of the hinge (22) and the free end of the retaining flange (20) is drawn into sealing engagement with the shoulder (14) by the tensional stress in the skirt (18) caused by deformation of the cap engaging the upper surface of the rim (8).

Abstract: A container for dispensing a two-component liquid comprises an outer resilient container (2) for containing one component with a neck (4) defining an opening and an inner tubular container (16). The inner container (16) contains a piston (20, 22) slidably received within it. A closure member (18) extends over the entire area of the inner container and closes its lower end (16). The first non- return valve is arranged to permit liquid to flow from the inner container to the liquid dispensing opening and the second non-return valve is arranged to permit air to flow through the airflow path into the inner container. The closure cap (10, 12) cooperates with the piston (20, 22) so that movement of the closure cap in the downward direction results in movement of the piston towards the closure member. A finger (13) connected to the piston contacts the closure member (18) and moves it and thus opens the inner container, thereby permitting the component within it to fall down into the component within the outer container.

Abstract: A dispensing cap for a beverage container constitutes a one-piece moulding of plastic material including a first circular section tubular portion (2) with first radius for connection to the mouth of the container and a second circular section tubular portion (6) with a second smaller radius. The said other end of the said second tubular portion (6) carries a radially projecting circumferential flange (16). One or more flow opening (17) are formed in the circumferential flange. The moulding further includes two half shells (42) of semi-cylindrical shape, the upper edge of each of which is integral with and sealed to the circumferential flange (16) and the lower edge of which forms a sliding seal with a first tubular portion (2). Abstract: A closure for a beverage container includes a tubular portion (2) for connection to the edge (32) of an aperture in the beverage container (30) and a cap (12, 14) which is removably connected to the tubular portion (2) and seals it. A first depending wall (4) is connected to the tubular portion (2) and a second depending wall (22) is connected to the cap. A seal member (26) is connected in a sealed manner to the first wall (4) and is in sealing contact with the second wall (22). The first and second walls (4, 22) and the seal member (26) together define a reservoir for a chemical substance (24) which is normally closed but when the cap is removed the second wall (22) is moved with respect to the first wall (4) and the reservoir is opened. When the closure is in use closing a beverage container, the reservoir is occupied by a first chemical substance and a second chemical substance is dissolved in the beverage. When the cap is removed, a first chemical substance drops into the beverage and the two chemical substances are selected such that they then react to produce carbon dioxide, thereby carbonating the beverage.

Abstract: An applicator for applying a substance in liquid, paste or gel form comprises a container (2), of which a portion is flexible and which includes an applicator portion, which is arcuate in cross-section and in which one or more first apertures (14) is formed. An elastic valve membrane (18) is connected to and overlies the applicator portion and one or more second apertures (22) are formed in it. The first apertures (14) are offset from the second apertures (22).
