    Abstract: A paint formulation comprising a binder dispersion and a hydrophobically modified alkali-swellable emulsion. The wet weight ratio of the binder dispersion to the hydrophobically modified alkali-swellable emulsion is from 1:3 to 1:10. The binder dispersion comprises by dry weight based on total dry weight of the binder dispersion, from 0.1% to 80% of polymer particles, and from 0.1% to 5% of a polysaccharide; and the hydrophobically modified alkali-swellable emulsion comprises by dry weight based on total dry weight of the hydrophobically modified alkali-swellable emulsion, from 30% to 50% of an α, β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, and from 30% to 60% of an α, β-ethylenically unsaturated nonionic monomer. A process for preparing the paint formulation comprising mixing the binder dispersion with the hydrophobically modified alkali-swellable emulsion under stirring.

    Abstract: Provided is a multicolor dispersion comprising a protective composition and two or more colorant dispersions, wherein the protective composition comprises (1) an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles comprising from 89% to 99.45% by weight, based on the total dry weight of the protective composition, of polymer particles, wherein the aqueous dispersion of polymer particles further comprises from 0.33% to 2% by weight, based on the total dry weight of the polymer, of an anionic stabilizer monomer represented by the following Formula (I), wherein R 1 is a linkage group between R 2 and a vinyl group, R 2 is ethylene or propene or butylene, n is from 0 to 50, M is a counter salt of potassium, sodium, ammonium or lithium; wherein the aqueous dispersion of polymer particles further comprises from 0.33% to 5% by weight, based on the total dry weight of the polymer, of a non-reactive anionic surfactant having an ethylene oxide chain length of less than 11; and (2) from 0.5% to 10% by weight, based on the total dry weight of the protective composition, of a clay.
