Abstract:
A biopsy device assembly performs a biopsy of an anatomical tissue of a patient. The biopsy device assembly includes a housing and a biopsy device that extends out of the housing and that collects and cuts anatomical tissue from the patient. The biopsy device assembly further includes a hemostatic agent removably housed in the biopsy device. Moreover, the assembly includes an actuator assembly that moves the biopsy device relative to the housing from a first position to an extended position such that the biopsy device collects and cuts the anatomical tissue from the patient. The actuator assembly also retracts the biopsy device relative to the housing toward a retracted position. Furthermore, the assembly includes an ejection device that ejects the hemostatic agent from the biopsy device as the actuator assembly retracts the biopsy device toward the retracted position.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a membrane filtration module with an inlet and outlet design that provides a more uniform fluid flow than conventional modules. The new membrane filtration module was designed and optimized based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The membrane filtration module contains a flow channel with width w and inlet and outlet ports that are collinear with the flow channel. The inlet and outlet ports each have a fanned section, with one end of the fanned section equal to width w. In addition, the inlet and outlet ports each have an inclined section that is in fluid connection with the flow channel. This inclined section is preferably at about a 45 degree angle relative to the flow channel. The new membrane filtration module is well suited for cross-flow filtration.

Abstract:
An apparatus includes a hybrid memory module, and the hybrid memory module includes volatile memory and non-volatile memory. Data is prearranged in the volatile memory. The data is committed to the non-volatile memory, as prearranged, in a single write operation when a size of the prearranged data reaches a threshold.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for forming a tissue construct having a composite structure. The method includes providing a biodegradable substrate, wherein the substrate is adapted to allow deposition or growth of a plurality of cells; providing a vascularized layer comprising a plurality of blood vessels therein; and adhering the vascularized layer to the substrate.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a radiosurgery and/or radiotherapy x-ray system including a collision avoidance subsystem for detecting and avoiding obstacles during treatment. The system includes an x-ray source having an emission head at a distal end of an articulated arm assembly extending from a base unit, with the head being adapted for selectively emitting an x-ray beam along a beam axis, and including an associated controller for selectively orienting the head whereby the beam extends along a succession of treatment axes. The system further includes a collision avoidance subsystem including means for preventing the head and arm assembly from effecting a collision with an object in one or more pre-computed exclusion zones.
Abstract:
Methods (300), devices, and systems of processing blood are described. The method (300) comprises the steps of: obtaining (312) blood from a patient coupled to a single blood processing device to form a closed loop between the patient and the blood processing device; collecting (314) bulk mononuclear blood cells from the blood by leukapheresis implemented using the blood processing device in the closed loop; and enriching (316) concurrently target cells separated from non-target cells in the bulk mononuclear blood cells using the blood processing device in the closed loop.
