Abstract: Pinch-style clamps can be designed for use in clamping or occluding plastic tubing, such as intravenous tubing. These pinch clamps can include a soft, polymer material applied to various surfaces of the pinch clamp to prevent abrasion or irritation to the patient, increase friction between the pinch clamp and the user operating said pinch clamp, increase friction between engaged surfaces of the pinch clamp to prevent premature or unintended disengagement of the clamp, or increase friction between the outer surfaces of the tubing and the clamping surfaces of the clamp. Various features or components can be employed to prevent lateral disengagement of the pinch clamp. A pinch clamp may also be configured with rounded outer edges to enhance patient comfort.

Abstract: A catheter assembly (20) includes a catheter (24), a catheter adapter (26), a needle (22), a needle guard (33) and a housing (50). The housing (50) is coupled to the needle guard (33) and disposed within a lumen (30) of the catheter adapter (26). The needle guard (33) may include first and second resilient arms (40a,b), which may include first and second curved portions (42), respectively. When the needle (22) is in a ready position, the first and second curved portions (42) are urged by a shaft (34) of the needle (22) into retaining contact with an inner wall (28) of the catheter adapter (26). When the needle (22) is in the retracted position, the shaft (34) may no longer bias the first and second resilient arms (40a,b) outwardly such that the retaining contact between the first and second curved portions (42) and the catheter adapter (26) is released, and the housing (50) and the needle guard (33) enclose a distal tip (36) of the needle (22).

Abstract: An IV access device (200) can include a needle hub (202) having an angled paddle grip (202b) to facilitate insertion of a catheter (201a) at a low angle. The angled paddle grip can also minimize any interference that an extension tube or stabilization platform may cause during insertion. By employing an angled paddle grip, the catheter can be inserted while maintaining the stabilization platform in an orientation that is substantially parallel to the patient's skin. Also, in cases where the extension tube may run parallel with the stabilization platform, the angled paddle grip can prevent the extension tube from extending into the patient's skin during insertion. This will prevent the stabilization platform and/or the extension tube from catching on the patient's skin or otherwise inhibiting a smooth insertion of the catheter.

Abstract: Intravenous catheter devices are provided which may include one or more adhesive portions which are positioned and configured to temporarily maintain a position of a catheter assembly following catheterization. A release liner covering and protecting the adhesive portions may be automatically removed to reveal the adhesive upon withdrawal of an introducer needle of the catheter assembly. The adhesive may be configured such that a clinician may insert the catheter assembly into the patient, adjust the catheter adapter of the catheter assembly to a desired position, withdraw the introducer needle, thereby removing a protective, non-adhesive release liner from the adhesive of the positioned catheter assembly, thereby temporarily fixing the position of the catheter assembly at the desired position by contacting the exposed adhesive to the skin of the patient.

Abstract: An intravenous catheter device is provided which includes an integrated adhesive strip whereby to secure the catheter adapter to the skin of a patient following catheterization. Some aspects of the present invention further comprise an adhesive strap that is coupled to the catheter adapter of a catheter assembly. One end of the adhesive strap is removed from the catheter adapter and wrapped around a body part or surface of the patient, and secured back to the catheter adapter. Thus, the catheter assembly is secured to the patient via the adhesive strap.

Abstract: A pinch clamp for use in occluding intravenous tubing or other similar tubing can include patient comfort features and/or lateral disengagement prevention features. These features can also be designed in a manner that allows the pinch clamps to be more easily manufactured. A pinch clamp can include a first arm that is coupled to a second arm by hinges. Each of the first and second arms can form a clamping surface that are aligned when the first arm is positioned overtop the second arm. The first arm can include opposing openings and the second arm can include opposing tabs which insert through the openings when the first arm is positioned overtop the second arm. The retaining tabs interface with the openings to prevent the first arm from separating from the second arm.
