A flywheel module 3 comprises a bypass transmission P that has three rotational members, and a flywheel F that is connected to a first one of the rotational members r 1 . A second one of the rotational members r 2 is connected to the input/output 9. The flywheel module further includes an electric machine MG which can function both as a motor and as a generator and which is connected to a third one of the rotational members r 3 , as well as actuation means formed by a battery A for actuating the electric machine. The flywheel module further includes a control unit for driving the actuation means, as well as operating means for operating the brake and the clutch. These operating means comprise no more than a single actuator for operating both the clutch and the brake. The actuator is connected to the clutch and the brake such that the actuator either opens the clutch and closes the brake or vice versa.

A starting device 1 for starting a combustion engine 5 has an output 3, which can be coupled to a crankshaft 7 of the combustion engine, an auxiliary drive source, which is connected to the output, and - a clutch 11, which comprises two clutch sections 13a and 13b one of which is connected to the auxiliary drive source and the other to the output. The clutch 11 further includes a spring 17 which couples the two clutch sections 13a and 13b together to become a friction clutch, as well as an actuator 19, which can move the two clutch sections apart and can pre-stress the spring during this operation, while the actuator can suddenly release the pre-stressed spring and can thus suddenly close the clutch.

Transmission system (TS) comprising: - a clutch module (CM) having an input (In) and a first and a second output (O1. O2). wherein between the first output and the input, a first clutch device (B, B1, C2) provided with first actuating means is present, and between the second output and the input a second clutch device (C, B2) with second actuating means is present, and - a transmission module (TM), with an output (Out) and a first and a second input (i1, i2), wherein between the first input and the output, a first partial transmission provided with at least one transmission (VAR ) is present, and between the second input and the output a second partial transmission provided with at least one further transmission or a mechanical connection is present, - in which the two outputs (O1, O2) of the clutch module are connected to the two inputs (i1, i2) of the transmission module. The transmission system further comprises a short-circuit clutch (S), which is present between the two outputs of the clutch module and/or the two inputs of the transmission module. The transmission (VAR) inside the first partial transmission is continuously variable within a specified transmission range.
