In one approach, a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) device may include a protection component including a first side and a second side, and a component housing encasing the protection component. The PTC device may further include a first terminal electrically connected through a first opening of the component housing to the first side of the protection component, and a second terminal electrically connected through a second opening of the component housing to the second side of the protection component. In some approaches, the PTC device includes at least one protection strap extending between the first and second terminals to provide enhanced mechanical coupling therebetween, particularly in the event of a fault.

In one approach, an apparatus includes a baseboard, a plurality of protection components formed on a baseboard, and a core housing encasing the plurality of protection components. The apparatus further includes an encapsulation layer positioned within the core housing and covering a first side of the baseboard, a first bonding layer formed over the encapsulation layer, and a second bonding layer formed over a second side of the baseboard. The apparatus further includes a surface terminal coupled to at least one of the first bonding layer and the second bonding layer. An outer surface of the first and/or second bonding layers is provided with terminals or lands. Through terminal connection, reflow soldering or other methods, the apparatus may be connected to external circuits or external equipment.

    摘要: Provided herein are approaches for embedding one or more protection components within a substrate, such as a printed circuit board (PCB). In one approach, an apparatus includes a first PCB layer and a second PCB layer, and a plurality of protection components formed between the first and second PCB layers. The apparatus further includes a core housing encasing the plurality of protection components, and a set of encapsulation layers formed over first and second sides of the core housing. In some approaches, the plurality of protection components are selected from the group consisting of: fuses, positive temperature coefficient devices, integrated circuits, and/or sensors. Electronic components, such as resistors and capacitors may be surface mounted on the top side of PCB to complete the protection circuit with the protection components. Through terminal connection, reflow soldering or other approaches, the apparatus may be connected to a battery pack to protect battery operation.

    摘要: Provided herein are positive temperature coefficient (PTC) devices including an angled or L-shaped terminal. In one approach, an assembly includes a protection component disposed between a first conductive foil layer and a second conductive foil layer, wherein the first and second conductive foil layers are electrically connected to the protection component by a plurality of leads extending from each of the first and second conductive foil layers. The assembly may further include an L-shaped terminal having a first section directly coupled to the first conductive foil layer and a second section coupled to an electrode of a battery cell. The assembly may further include a printed circuit board coupled to the second conductive foil layer. As configured, the battery cell may be oriented substantially perpendicularly to a top surface of the printed circuit board.
