The composition is useful as a presurgical scrub replacement, a lotion or other hand preparation.
Abstract:
A hydroalcoholic lotion is disclosed which comprises (a) a lower alcohol and water in a weight ratio of about 35:65 to 100:0, and (b) between at least 0.5 % and 8 % by weight thickener system comprised of at least one emulsifier present in at least 0.05 % by weight wherein the composition in a polymer free state has a viscosity of at least 4,000 centipoise at 23 degrees C and wherein the emulsifier is comprised of at least one hydrophobic group and at least one hydrophilic group. The hydroalcoholic composition is useful as a hand preparation such as a lotion or as a presurgical scrub replacement.
Abstract:
A composite of a gel of swollen hydrocolloid dispersed in a pressure sensitive adhesive matrix is provided. The gel has a natural or synthetically derived hydrocolloid swollen with a non-volatile swelling agent, such that the gel may have a shear modulus of less than 6.2 x 10 dynes/cm . The gel-adhesive composite has continued skin adhesion whether applied to or existing in dry or moist skin conditions. The gel contributes a high moisture vapor transmission rate to attempt to maintain dry skin conditions while the adhesive maintains skin adhesion. The gel-adhesive composite may be used in a variety of tape, dressing, bandage, drape, or other skin contacting usage and may optionally include antimicrobial agents to treat the skin while adhesion continues.
Abstract:
Hydroalcoholic compositions useful for the enhancement of the transdermal delivery of a pharmaceutical agent, methods of preparation, transdermal delivery systems, and methods of delivering the pharmaceutical agent are provided. The composition includes a lower alcohol and water in a weight ratio of at least about 20:80, a pharmaceutical agent, and an emulsifier system.
Abstract:
An antimicrobial hydroalcoholic composition comprising hydroalcoholic solvent system comprising a lower alcohol and water in a weight ratio of at least about 50:50; a thickener system comprising at least one cationic or nonionic polymeric thickener that is solid at ambient temperature; and a secondary antimicrobial agent.
Abstract:
An incise drape (10) suitable for use in surgical procedures. The drape (10) comprises a substantially transparent flexible film (21) that has at least a portion of one major surface coated or covered with a pressure sensitive adhesive (9), and a two liners (16) removably covering the adhesive (9). Each liner (16) has a handle (14, 15) spaced from the opposite side edges (12, 13) of the film (21), and a body portion attached to the handle (14, 15). The body portion of each liner (16) extends along the adhesive (9) from handle (14, 15) in the direction away from the other liner (16). The drape (10) is repeatedly folded over from the opposite side edges (12, 13) of the film (21) toward the handles (14, 15) so that the drape (10) may be unfolded and the adhesive exposed by pulling the handles (14, 15) apart.
Abstract:
A hydrophilic, pressure-sensitive adhesive composition prepared by irradiating solid poly(N-vinyl lactam) with ionizing radiation to crosslink the poly(N-vinyl lactam) and thereafter mixing the radiation-crosslinked poly(N-vinyl lactam) with essentially unirradiated plasticizer in an amount sufficient to form a cohesive, pressure-sensitive adhesive composition. The composition is useful as a biomedical adhesive for transmitting or receiving electrical signals as a component of a biomedical electrode. The composition is also useful as a drug delivery device to deliver pharmaceuticals or other active ingredients to or through mammalian skin. The composition is also useful as a component in a skin covering for protecting mammalian skin or mammalian skin openings with antimicrobial agents. A method of preparation of the composition is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A two-phase composite of ionically-conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive (14, 36), biomedical electrodes (10, 30) using the composite and methods of preparing the composite and the electrode are disclosed. The continuous phase is a hydrophilic, solid state pressure-sensitive adhesive composition ionically-conductive regardless of an amount of water present in the composition. The discontinuous phase are domains of a hydrophilic pressure-sensitive adhesive which enhances adhesion of the composite to mammalian skin while maintaining acceptable alternating current impedance of the composite.
