Abstract:
Disclosed is an ostomy device with an adhesive wafer for attachment to a skin surface (S) of a user and a collecting bag (8) or collecting output from a stoma. The collecting bag is connected to the adhesive wafer, and the adhesive wafer has a through-going hole (6) for accommodating the stoma (7) of the user. The adhesive wafer includes a backing layer (3), a first switchable adhesive composition (2), a second absorbent adhesive composition (1), and a release liner, and the second adhesive layer has a central portion with a first thickness and an edge portion with a second thickness, the first thickness being larger than the second thickness.
Abstract:
Skin compatible curing adhesives for adhering devices or appliances to mammalian body are disclosed. Adhesive compositions to protect peri-anal, peri-stomal, peri-wound, and peri-fistula skin are disclosed.
Abstract:
The disclosed hydrophobic adhesive composition comprises a hydrophobic adhesive matrix and water absorbent fibers dispersed throughout the adhesive matrix to provide water management capabilities to the adhesive composition. The disclosed adhesive composition can adhered to a variety of surfaces, such as skin, and will easily remove from the surface. Therefore, the disclosed adhesive is particularly well suitable for application to skin wherein the absorbent fiber can absorb perspiration, water, or wound fluid from skin.
Abstract:
A pressure sensitive adhesive composition suitable for medical purposes comprising a rubbery elastomeric base and one or more water soluble or water swellable hydrocolloids, said adhesive composition comprising a substantially homogeneous mixture of 15-60 % of a butyl rubber, 15-60 % of one or more tackifier resins, 1-10 % of a tackifying liquid constituent, 20-60 % of one or more hydrocolloids and 0-3 % of a pigment shows very good properties as an adhesive for ostomy appliances.
Abstract:
An external incontinence device which reduces or eliminates maceration, skin irritation, microbial skin infiltration and infection, and urinary tract infection associated with conventional urinary catheters and incontinence devices is provided. Devices of the invention comprise, in a plurality of configurations, a housing having an outlet conduit, and several alternative means for attaching the housing to a para-meatal genital surface, including a barrier disc comprising various adhesive and medically active substances which form an occlusive adhesive seal with the para-meatal surface. Adhesive leaves made of fluid-absorptive or fluid-permeable materials are provided to adhere the device to skin while permitting removal of moisture from the underlying skin surface, thus eliminating maceration. Vapor permeable adhesives on the interior surface of the attachment elements, and a microbial-barrier layer provided on inner surfaces of the several configurations of housings are also provided. Antimicrobial agents are provided on or within various elements of the invention to prevent microbial infiltration into the urethral meatus, thus reducing or eliminating the incidence of urinary tract infection. New compositions of matter are also provided, comprising biocompatible hydrocolloid adhesive formulations useful in producing barrier discs of the invention as well as wound care pads, wound dressings and adhesives for the attachment of wound dressings and other devices to intact skin, mucosal surfaces, wounds and diseased or damaged epidermis, dermis or subcutaneous tissue. The disclosed compositions include two-component biocompatible hydrocolloids that rapidly cure to a solid flexible adhesive.

Abstract:
An adhesive for moist tissue is formulated including a silicone elastomer, a crosslinked polyacrylic acid polymer and a sodium polyacrylate based superabsorbent polymer. The adhesive adheres well to moist tissue, such as a mucosal skin surface. An ostomy skin barrier including a stoma seal made using the adhesive is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a composition including a polymer and a switch initiator. The composition can be switched from a first liquid state to a second adhesive state by activation of the switch initiator. The composition has in the first liquid state a complex viscosity |η*| below 0.4 MPa s; and the composition has in the second adhesive state a second repeated peel force above 1 N/25mm.
