Abstract:
The present invention provides cosmetic skin care methods and compositions containing methyl-branched esters. The compositions contain a branched chain ester RCOOR' wherein R is selected from the group consisting of CH3, phenyl, and CH3(CH2)4CH=CHCH2CH=CH(CH2); and R' is a methyl-branched hydrocarbon radical containing a total of at least 6 carbon atoms, provided that if R' contains more than 6 carbon atoms in total, the branched ester contains more than one methyl group. The compositions provide control of sebum secretion from sebocytes, improved oil control and improved skin feel, prevent shine and stickiness, while also providing anti-aging benefits which results in reduced appearance of wrinkles and aged skin, improved skin color, treatment of photoaged skin, improvement in skin's radiance and clarity and finish, and an overall healthy and youthful appearance of the skin.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a clear antiperspirant or deodorant gel composition which exhibits reduced staining while retaining excellent aesthetic attributes and efficacy. The gel composition is a water-in-oil emulsion having a viscosity of about 50,000 to 250,000 cP, preferably about 100,000 to 200,000 cP. The water phase comprises about 75 to 90 % of the composition and contains a deodorant or antiperspirant effective amount (e.g. about 3 to 25 %) of an antiperspirant active dissolved therein. The oil phase comprises about 10 to 25 % of the composition and contains a silicone oil and a polyether substituted silicone emulsifying agent. The silicone oil comprises a mixture of a non-volatile silicone, preferably a non-volatile linear silicone, and a volatile linear silicone. It has been found that reducing the amount of non-volatile silicone in the known gel composition to a relatively low level (e.g. below about 5 %) and adding an amount of volatile linear silicone to the composition (e.g. above about 2 %, preferably above about 5 %) substantially improves the non-staining properties of the composition.
Abstract:
Therapeutic treatment as well as propylactic measures are provided by topical application of compositions containing an aryl 2-acetoxyethanoic acid to eradicate or prevent the development of axillary foul odor, foot malodor and other body odors, e.g. scalp, and skin, nail and follicular infections caused by microorganisms. The compositions are antimicrobial against several organisms that infect the skin and are specifically effective against P. acnes. The compositions are therapeutically effective against folliculitis and perifolliculitis and are useful for other skin lesions, nail and mucosal infections such as impetigo, seborrheic dermatitis, erythrasma and thrichomycosis axillaris, associated with or caused by microorganisms. The therapeutic effect of the composition may be synergized or amplified by incorporating a cosmetic or dermatologic agent into the formulation for topical treatment of cosmetic and dermatologic indications. The compositions are also useful as preservatives in food products, cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations, and industrial preparations.

Alkyl or alkylamido dimethyl 2,3-dihydroxypropyl ammonium salts may be used in hair and skin conditioning compositions and methods to provide improved manageability, static control, and ease of wet and dry combing when applied to hair, particularly human scalp hair, and smooth and lubricated surfaces with pleasant after-feel when applied in topical conditioner compositions to the human skin. The hair conditioning formulations may include styling, cleaning and rinsing compositions such as gels, mousses, sprays, lotions, glazes and shampoos, while the skin conditioning compositions may include moisturizing creams and lotions, bath oils, liquid cleaners, body mousses or bath gels, as well as alcoholic or hydroalcoholic astringents, toners, pre-electric shave conditioners, after-bath splashes and fragrance products. A preferred quaternary according to the invention is oleamidoproyl dimethyl 2,3-dihydroxypropyl ammonium chloride, which forms exceptionally stable, clear, dilutable gels.

Abstract:
Dry-feel emollient composition additives comprising jojoba oil based esters have use in personal care, cosmetic, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical products. The composition is essentially solid at room temperature, can be provided in various shapes and sizes (especially as particulates such as spheres), and can be produced from combinations of fatty alcohols, isopropyl esters and wax esters obtained from the oil contained in the seed of the jojoba plant (Simmondsia chinensis), jojoba oil. These new compositions also increase the range of applications for cosmetic compositions through an emollient that is more polar and hydrophilic than is found in jojoba oils (which may also be referred to in the art as jojoba wax esters). The compositions comprising fatty alcohols, isopropyl esters and jojoba wax esters (jojoba oil) may be obtained by a novel process of a base catalyzed alcoholysis reaction between jojoba oil and an alcohol, such as isopropyl alcohol. These esters, whether exclusively jojoba esters or when combined with other carrier and vehicle components (including other emollients or binders) can form excellent carrier and vehicle or delivery compositions for use in the cosmetic, personal care and/or pharmaceutical field, including the cosmeceutical field where cosmetic compositions also provide pharmaceutical or other therapeutic benefits. Typical materials with which the jojoba esters may be blended in accordance with the practice of the present invention include, but are not limited to, cosmetic oils and waxes, both natural and synthetic, including hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, silicone oils, mineral oils, long chain esters, vitamins (especially vitamin E), long chain fatty acids, alcohols, cosmeceuticals, pigments, botanical extracts, esters and ethers, dimers, trimers, oligomers, and polymers, and the like. These blended compositions may of course be combined with the active ingredients intended to be delivered by the compositions used in the present invention. The proportions of the jojoba esters should be chosen to provide the dry-feel to the composition which is highly desired. This will usually require at least 10 %, often at least 20 %, preferably at least 30 %, more preferably at least 40 or 50 % by weight, and most preferably at least 60, at least 70, at least 80, and at least 90 % (up to 100 % by weight) by weight of carrier material (excluding solvent and actives) in the composition.
