The invention relates to an assembly of a porous metallic gas diffusion substrate and a polymeric separator membrane for use in an alkaline electrolyser or alkaline fuel cell. The polymeric separator membrane of the assembly comprises inorganic hydrophilic particulates dispersed in an organic polymeric binder. The polymeric separator membrane is gas tight when filled with electrolyte. The polymeric separator membrane is penetrating into at least a top portion of the porous metallic gas diffusion substrate. Also disclosed is a method to produce such an assembly via coating a paste on a porous metallic gas diffusion substrate.

The cord further comprises a protective compound whereby the protective compound is at least present in said void. The protective compound gives the coated metal element cathodic protection. The invention further relates to a structure comprising a number of cords such as a knitted, a braided, a welded or a glued structure. Furthermore the invention relates to a cementitious matrix reinforced with a cord according to the present invention and to a method to inhibit hydrogen gas evolution at the interface of a cord embedded in a cementitious matrix.

A wire (10) has a steel core (12), a nickel sub coating (14) and a zinc or zinc alloy top coating (16). The steel core (12) has a carbon content ranging from 0.15 per cent to 0.35 per cent. The nickel sub coating (14) and the zinc or zinc-alloy top coating (16) are preferably in a mechanically undeformed state. The use of the nickel sub coating allows to decrease the thickness of the top coating without decreasing the corrosion resistance. A possible application of the wire (10) is its use in mesh panels for fish farming.

The twisted yarn further comprises a solvent-based lubricant, said lubricant comprising a polymer binder and solid particles. It has been found that the application of such particular lubricant to the yarn provides for an improved flexlife of the yarn.

A steel wire rope for use in a drive system such as found on a sliding vehicle door or window elevator is revealed. Particular about this rope is that it has a remarkable corrosion resistance that is obtained by spreading magnesium oxide particles over the zinc or zinc alloy coated steel wires and bringing those particles in contact with the coating. The spreading and contacting can be achieved by means of a liquid carrier such as an aliphatic mineral oil that is commonly used as the lubricant for such steel wire ropes. The magnesium oxide ensures an equal or better corrosion resistance even when reducing the thickness of the zinc coating. Reducing the thickness of the zinc coating increases the strength of the steel wire rope, while maintaining the diameter of the cord.

A wire (10) for external exposure, i.e. without chemical binding with a polymer or rubber matrix. The wire (10) has a steel core (12), a nickel sub-coating (14) and a zinc or zinc alloy top coating (16) above the nickel sub-coating. The steel core (12) has a carbon content exceeding 0.20 %. The wire is in a work-hardened state by drawing or rolling. The wire (10) has an excellent corrosion resistance and provides an excellent barrier against hydrogen. Preferable uses are wires in off-shore applications.
