Abstract:
A smokable composition includes (a) a smokable material; and (b) a supramolecular assembly (31). The supramolecular assembly (31) comprises a flavorant and at least one selected from the group consisting of O,O'-dibenzoyl-(2R,3R)-tartaric acid, a hydrate thereof or a salt thereof, and ditoluoyl-(2R,3R)-tartaric acid, a hydrate thereof or a salt thereof. In addition, a smoking article comprises a rod of tobacco or tobacco substitute (32), optionally a filter attached to the rod, and the supramolecular assembly, as menthol-release agent.
Abstract:
A moist smokeless tobacco product (10) for oral use comprises a pre-portioned piece of tobacco material (16) and a semi-dissolvable, super-hydrated membrane coating (12) comprising a soluble, non-cross-linked component and an insoluble, cross-linked component, and a texture component (22, 24). The tobacco material (16) comprises moist smokeless tobacco. The texture component (22, 24) reduces the slipperiness and/or increases the friction of the moist smokeless tobacco product (10) when placed in a user's mouth.
Abstract:
An oral chewable tobacco product (10) includes a gum composition in an amount of about 30% to about 70% by weight based on the weight of the oral chewable tobacco product (10) and tobacco powder (12) in an amount of about 30% to about 70% by weight based on the weight of the oral chewable tobacco product (12). The gum composition includes at least one environmentally biodegradable polymer (14) in an amount of about 20% to about 95% by weight based on the weight of the gum composition and at least one softener in an amount of about 5% to about 80% by weight based on the weight of the gum composition.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a copolymer that includes a repeat unit containing a flavorant -containing pendant and a salt-containing repeating unit. In addition, a comestible, a smoking composition, a smoking article, a smokeless tobacco composition and a heatable or combustible product are provided which incorporate one or more of the flavorant-containing copolymer.
Abstract:
Oral tobacco products (10) having a gel-coating (12) and methods for making are provided. The method includes (a) molding a portion of tobacco material to form a pre-portioned piece of tobacco material (16), the tobacco material comprising moist smokeless tobacco; (b) contacting the pre-portioned piece of tobacco material (16) with a gel-coating solution to form a gel-coating (12) comprising at least one polymer on an outer surface of the pre-portioned piece of tobacco material (16) to form a gel-coated oral tobacco product, said gel- coating (12) comprising an inner surface disposed around the pre-portioned piece of tobacco material (16) and an outer surface; and (c) forming one or more of perforations, uncoated areas and holes (20) in the gel-coating (12) of the oral tobacco product to form a gel-coated oral tobacco product.
Abstract:
A pre-portioned moist product (10) comprising a portion of plant material (16) and a coating (12) is disclosed. Preferably, the plant material (16) comprises tobacco. The coating (12) includes a soluble, non-cross-linkable component and an cross-linkable component which becomes substantially water-insoluble upon crosslinking. The soluble component of the coating (12) dissolves upon placement in the mouth, while the insoluble component disintegrates and/or loses structural integrity once the soluble component has dissolved to release and disperse the plant material (16) in the user's mouth.
Abstract:
Provided is an oral pouch product (100) having a coated seam (106), having a porous pouch wrapper (102); an inner filling material (114) enclosed within first and second opposed layers (104, 116) of the porous pouch wrapper (102); at least one seam (106) holding a portion of said first and second opposed layers (104, 116) of said porous pouch wrapper (102) together; and a first coating (112) comprising a releasable ingredient applied to an outer surface of said seam (106). Also provided is a method for making the oral pouch product (100).
Abstract:
A process for preparing a filter plug for a smoking article, such as a cigarette, includes: (a) freeze-drying a solution of a biopolymer to form a structure; and (b) cutting the structure to a predetermined dimension, to thereby prepare a filter plug for a smoking article. Another process for preparing a filter plug for a smoking article, such as a cigarette, includes: (a) extruding a mixture of a foaming agent and a biopolymer comprising a protein to form a structure; and (b) cutting the structure to a predetermined dimension, to thereby form a filter plug for a smoking article. A cigarette is also disclosed comprising a tobacco rod and a filter attached to the tobacco rod, wherein the filter comprises a filter plug prepared according to the process of the invention and the structure obtained in the extruding has an average pore size ranging from about 0.04 mm to about 0.20 mm.
Abstract:
Provided is a moist smokeless tobacco product (10) including a hydrated membrane coating (12) and a portion of tobacco material (16). Preferably, the tobacco material is preportioned and formed to include at least one hole (18) through the tobacco material, or at least one dimple (14), or at least one hole (18) and at least one dimple (14), so as to increase the surface area of the tobacco product (10).
Abstract:
Compositions are provided which contain immobilized flavorants for flavor delivery. In particular, smoking compositions are provided which contain flavorant ester salts of polycarboxylic acids.
