Abstract:
Cured coatings having particles at a surface region of the cured coating are provided. Also provided are multi-component composite coatings which include a cured basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a cured topcoat deposited from a topcoating composition. The multi-component composite coatings of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings capable of retaining scratch resistance after weathering.
Abstract:
Coating compositions having improved mar and scratch resistance are disclosed. The coatings generally comprise particles having a hardness sufficient to provide the desired level of scratch and/or mar resistance. The improved resistance is achieved without affecting the appearance or mechanical performance of the coatings. Methods for using the coatings, and the substrates coated therewith, are also disclosed.

Abstract:
A method for applying a multilayer coating comprising a basecoat and a clearcoat is disclosed. The basecoat is a curable aqueous composition comprising (1) polymeric particles prepared from ethylenically unsaturated compounds including a multi-ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a keto or aldo-functional monomer, and (2) a polyhydrazide.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a coating formed from a composition containing a film-forming resin and a plurality of particles dispersed in the resin. The average particle size of the particles is 0.1 to 50 microns, and the particles have a hardness sufficient to impart greater mar and/or scratch resistance to the coating as compared to a coating where no particles are present. Also, the difference between the refractive index of the resin and the refractive index of the particles ranges from 1 to 1.5. A method for preparing a powder coating including the particles also is provided.
Abstract:
Golf balls having a core and a layer disposed about the core are disclosed. The layer comprises a polyurea formed from the reaction of an isocyanate and a (meth)acrylated amine. Sports equipment comprising such a polyurea are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Methods for coating substrates comprising applying a powder to at least a portion of the substrate are disclosed. Following application of the powder layer, the substrate is coated, such as with a base coat and/or clear coat.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a crosslinking agent having reactive benzoxazine groups that is the ungelled reaction product of (a) at least one mono-hydroxy aromatic compound and (b) at least one aminotriazine compound having one or less non-alkylated NH group present in a molar ratio of reactant (a) to reactant (b) ranging from 1.0 to 3.0: 1.0, provided that where reactant (a) is a single ring monohydroxy aromatic compound, the molar ratio of reactant (a) to reactant (b) ranges from 1.0 to 1.8:1.0 and from 2.2 to 3.0:1.0. The crosslinking agent is essentially free of hydroxyl functionality and has a glass transition temperature of at least 25 DEG C. The present invention is further directed to methods for preparing and using these crosslinking agents.
Abstract:
Methods for preparing pigmented and nonpigmented powder coating compositions are disclosed. The methods generally involve the use of dispersions comprising a fluoropolymer.
