Abstract:
A wiper coupler adaptor (52) for use in releasably attaching a wiper assembly (26) to a bayonet style wiper arm (24) having an attachment end (32) includes a deck (66) disposed between the sidewalls (54) that cooperates with a portion of the sidewalls (54) to define a rest adapted to operatively receive the attachment end (32) of the wiper arm (26). The sidewalls (54) each include a ledge (82) that extends transversely toward the other to operatively engage the attachment end (32) of the wiper arm (24). The wiper coupler adaptor (52) also includes a locking mechanism (72) including a cantilevered body (74) and a head (76) disposed at a terminal end of the cantilevered body (74). The head (76) includes a lip (78) depending therefrom that is adapted to extend through an aperture (38) in the base of the attachment end (32) and receive a portion of the base of the attachment end (32) to prevent undesired release of the wiper coupler adaptor (52) from the attachment end of the wiper arm (24).
Abstract:
A beam blade windshield wiper assembly (26) having a universal coupler assembly (66) including a carrier (68), a saddle (70) that is removably received and retained by the carrier (68), and a coupler (72) that is operatively mounted to the saddle (70). The carrier (68), saddle (70), and coupler (72) cooperate to accommodate various sizes of "pinch-type" attachment members, "push-button-type" attachment members, as well as "side-pin-type" and "pin-and-bent-tab-type" attachment members that are used to connect the wiper arm and the windshield wiper assembly.
Abstract:
A universal coupler assembly (66) for a wiper assembly (26) includes a carrier (68) adapted to be mounted to the wiper assembly (26) and a saddle (70) that is removably received and retained by the carrier (68). The saddle (70) is slideably mounted in a side of the carrier (68) and includes a locking mechanism (124) to provide releasable engagement with the carrier (68). The carrier (68) and saddle (70) cooperate to accommodate various sizes of "pinch-type" wiper arm (24) attachment members, "push-button-type" attachment members, as well as "side-pin- type" and "pin-and-bent-tab-type" attachment members that are used to connect the wiper arm (24) and the wiper assembly (26).
Abstract:
An airfoil (32) for a wiper assembly (22) includes a body (50) having a top surface (52), bottom surface (58), and a front side surface and a rear side surface (54) extending between the top surface (52) and bottom surface (58). The top surface (52) has a dual angle surface relative to the front side surface and the rear side surface (54) to allow air to flow over the wiper assembly.
Abstract:
An adapter for attaching to a wiper arm attachment member having a track defined by a base and walls depending therefrom, a bent tab extending outwardly from the base, and fins that extend from the walls. The adapter has a body with a first and second ends. A stop wall formed at the first end abuts the track. A pair of outer walls extend between the first and second ends. A strap connects the outer walls for engaging the base. A pair of inner walls are spaced laterally between the outer walls and are arranged at least partially under the strap. A cantilevered finger extends from each of the inner walls with a tab formed adjacent to the second end. The tabs extend away from each other and are arranged to engage respective fins to prevent movement between the adapter and the attachment member when the stop wall abuts the track.
Abstract:
An adapter (34) for use in attaching a wiper assembly (26) to a wiper arm (24) hook (58) including a top (60) and a bottom (62) with an aperture (66). The adapter (34) includes a body (68), a deck (70), a tab (72), a tooth (74), and a biasing element (76). The body (68) has sides (78) to accommodate the hook (58). The deck (70) engages the top (60). The tab (72) is spaced from the deck (70), is disposed between the sides (78), and extends to a distal end (92). The tooth (74) depends from the tab (72) and engages the aperture (66). The biasing element (76) depends from the tab (72), is disposed between the tooth (74) and the distal end (92), and engages the bottom (62) such that the tab (72) is displaced upwardly toward the top (60) when the tooth (74) engages the aperture (66).
Abstract:
A windshield wiper assembly (26) adapted to be mounted to the attachment portion of a wiper arm including a coupler assembly (44) mounted to a wiper blade and serving to interconnect the wiper blade to the wiper arm. The coupler assembly (44) includes a coupler (46, 246) having a body (60, 260) with a pair of sidewalls (62, 262), a channel (64, 264) defined between the sidewalls and extending substantially parallel thereto. The channel (64, 264) is adapted to cooperatively receive the attachment portion of the wiper arm. A latching mechanism (68, 268) is operatively mounted to the body (60, 260) and movable between an open position spaced from the channel (64, 264) and a closed position disposed over the channel (64, 264) to secure the attachment portion of the wiper arm between the latching mechanism (68, 268) and the body (60, 260) thereby securing the coupler (46, 246) to the attachment portion of the wiper arm.
Abstract:
An adapter is provided to attach a non-original wiper blade assembly to a wiper arm of a vehicle which is usable with an existing sliding latch and other aesthetic and functional components of the wiper arm to maintain the original aesthetics of the wiper system while allowing installation of non-original wiper blade assemblies.
Abstract:
A refillable wiper blade (36) including a refill subassembly (38) and a coupler (48) adapted for releasable attachment thereto. The refill subassembly includes a wiping element (42), an elongated spline (44) supporting the element, and a retention clip (46) operatively attached to the spline. The clip has a body (58) and an upwardly-biased cantilevered finger (60) extending from the body. The coupler has a first end (62A) shaped to receive the body of the clip, and a relief (64) defined adjacent to the first end and shaped to accommodate the finger of the clip. The refill subassembly and the coupler cooperate such that predetermined movement of the coupler with respect to the refill subassembly brings the body into engagement with the first end of the coupler such that the finger deflects downwardly until subsequent movement of the coupler along the spline releases the finger upwardly and into the relief of the coupler thereby securing the refill subassembly to the coupler.
Abstract:
A wiper assembly (26) including a support element (30), a wiping element (28), and an airfoil (36). The wiping element (28) has a head portion (40) attached to the support element (30), a wiping portion (42), and a pair of opposed grooves (44) between the head portion (40) and the wiping portion (42). The airfoil (36) has a body (60) with a lower surface (62) and a slot (74) spaced therefrom for accommodating the support element (30). The body (60) has a channel (76) extending from the lower surface (62) to the slot (74), thereby defining a pair of opposed shelves (78). The body (60) includes a pair of concealing members (80) depending from the shelves (78) that are at least partially disposed in the grooves (44) of the wiping element (28) so as to substantially conceal the support element (30) within the body (60) of the airfoil (36).
