Abstract: The invention provides a process for the preparation of detergent bars not containing clay, comprising the steps ofa) reacting the precursor of a detergent active with an alkaline material;b) adding a mixture of at least one polyol and a boron containing compound;c) adding sodium alumino silicate or generating in situ sodium alumino-silicate by allowing a source of monomeric aluminium to condense with silicate anion;d) adding if desired other detergent actives, builders and minor ingredients; andconverting the product into bars by conventional method. The resulting bar includes 5-70% by weight of detergent active, 0.5 to 30% by weight of boron- polyol gel, 1-15% by weight of aluminosilicate, and water.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a washing machine in which a composition is used comprising at least one liquid-liquid interface, with an interfacial tension of at least 5 mN/m. The washing machine comprises a heatable wash drum, means for storing dispensing and mixing the liquids, means for introducing the liquids into the drum, and means for filtering, separating, distilling and condensing the wash liquor and vapours and recovering the solvents. Use of the machine enables discharge of waste water with only low levels of solvent, and facilities recovering of the solvents.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cleaning composition suitable for manually cleaning substrates. The composition comprises at least two immiscible liquid phases having one liquid-liquid interface with an interfacial tension of more than 5mN/m, the difference in density between the two liquid phases being not more than 0.2g/cc. After agitation, the composition is applied to the substrate to be cleaned, and subsequently friction is applied to the substrate. The composition provides for the required stability after agitation, and gives good detergency, particularly as regards particulate soil.

Abstract: The invention provides a process of cleaning household surfaces comprising applying to the surface a temporary emulsion which is formed by the agitation of a composition comprising at least two immiscible liquids, the liquids having at least one liquid-liquid interface with an interfacial tension of at least 5 mN/m, and in which the concentration of the most polar liquid in the composition is from 10 to 90% by volume. Abstract: A composition comprising: A) a transparent gel base, comprising: a) a polymeric thickener, b) a solubiliser, c) a pH adjuster, d) a calcium sequestrant, e) water, f) an optional protein, g) an optional active material, which is selected from disaccharides, lactones, inorganic salts, diacids and mixtures thereof, h) an optional dye preferably comprising violet, blue, red or mixtures thereof, wherein the solubiliser comprises a mixture of at least two components, said mixture comprising at least one high HLB component having an HLB value of from 10 to 20 and at least one low HLB component having an HLB value of from 1 to less than 10, and B) a hydrogel particle, comprising: a) a matrix, and b) a silicone or blend of silicones, wherein the silicone or blend of silicones has an average molecular weight of greater than 400 Da, and wherein the particle has an average diameter of 0.1 to 15 mm and wherein the silicone is present in an amount of from 5 to 40 wt % by total weight of the particle.
