Abstract:
A marine drive assembly includes at least one vessel hull having at least one cavity formed therein. At least one drive assembly is disposed in the at least one cavity. The at least one drive assembly includes upper and lower units. The upper unit is pivotally mounted within the hull-cavity for adjusting a pitch of the drive assembly about a vertical axis. The lower unit is coupled to the upper unit and includes a propulsory member for propelling the vessel through a body of water.
Abstract:
A marine vessel control system includes a primary marine propulsory mechanism attached to the vessel and an intelligent vessel control system. Also included is an attitude sensor linked with the intelligent vessel control system. An actuating system responding to an output of the intelligent vessel control system is linked with the primary marine propulsory mechanism for adjusting a thrust vector of the e primary marine propulsory mechanism.
Abstract:
A marine propulsion unit 10 utilizing a turbine engine 12 is provided as a drop-in module. The propulsion unit 10 includes a base 22 which forms a part of the hull 18. The propulsion unit 10 includes a drive unit 14 which is mounted to the engine 12. Both the engine 12 and the drive unit 14 are moved with respect to the hull 18 to change the angle of the propeller 20 with respect to the hull 18. A hydraulic resistance system 84 is provided to provide resistance to a turbine engine 12 when in an idle condition. An auxiliary power transfer 223 is provided to power an auxiliary gen-set and power train 228. A main electrical power unit 230 having an auxiliary engine 232 is also connected to the power transfer unit 223. The auxiliary engine 232 may be used to drive the vessel at low speeds and maneuvering conditions. One of the main engines 220, 222 may be used to drive both of the shafts 224, 226 through the power transfer unit 223.
Abstract:
An automated indoor water display system has a panel. A pump is operable to pump water from a reservoir to the panel in a manner that causes water to flow over at least a portion of the panel. The panel is held in a housing adapted to limit escape of moisture from the housing. The system can include a humidity control system operable to increase and/or decrease humidity in response to a humidity sensor. The system can include an ultraviolet sanitization system that limits microbial growth in the system. The system can also include a cleaning system that automatically exchanges water in the system with fresh water while the pump operates continuously during the exchange. The system can also include a fan positioned to direct airflow from the room containing the display unit toward the water flowing over the body to enhance removal of airborne contaminants from the air.
Abstract:
A high-speed boat includes a hull having multiple sponsons At least one propulsion unit is disposed on the hull. The propulsion unit is moveable with respect to the boat hull adjusting a thrust vector of the propulsion unit In another aspect, the high-speed boat may include a hull having fore and aft portions The fore portion includes multiple sponsons. At least one moveable step is attached to one of the sponsons, dynamically adjusting that sponson's relative contact position with respect to a water surface In another aspect, the high speed boat may include a hull having multiple sponsons separated by a forward hull portion The forward hull portion includes a top surface and a bottom surface. At least one adjustable dump vent is formed on the bottom surface of the forward hull portion. The dump vent includes a door moveable with respect to the dump vent for controlling a volume of air released through the dump vent. The dump vent extends from the bottom surface to the top surface of the forward hull portion.
Abstract:
A capacitor, and methods of its manufacture, having improved capacitance efficiency which results from increasing the effective area of an electrode surface are disclosed. An improved "three-dimensional" capacitor may be constructed with electrode layers having three-dimensional aspects at the point of interface with a dielectric such that portions of the electrode extend into the dielectric layer. Advantageously, embodiments of a three- dimensional capacitor drastically reduce the space footprint that is required in a circuit to accommodate the capacitor, when compared to current capacitor designs. Increased capacitance density may be realized without using high k (high constant) dielectric materials, additional "electrode - dielectric - electrode" arrangements in an ever increasing stack, or serially stringing together multiple capacitors.
