Abstract: This disclosure relates to hulls for planing or semi-planing water craft. The hull (4) has an abruptly down-swept trailing edge portion (18) which, in the preferred embodiment, is in the form of a flap (18) extending across the full width of the transom of the hull and which projects beyond the level of an upswept portion of the underside (14) of the hull by flap chord (Cf) representing only a small fraction of the length (L) of the hull (4). Abstract: The present invention relates to wind powered or assisted craft, particularly hydrofoil craft, which are capable of travelling considerably faster than wind speed over a wide range of wind speeds and directions. The invention has application from single person leisure and sports craft through to large commercial cargo and passenger vessels, although certain aspects of the invention will find application to wind powered or assisted craft or vehicles for use on land and to hydrofoil supported craft in general. Whilst in the case of smaller craft, wind power may provide the sole means of propulsion, in the case of larger craft the provision of auxiliary power sources is likely, as an aid to low-speed man÷uvring and operation in unfavourable wind conditions. Heavier craft may well require the assistance of such power sources to get through the ''resistance hump'' which is characteristic of hydrofoil craft.

Abstract: Planing-type vessel comprising a front portion and a rear portion in the direction of movement of the structure, the front portion comprising two symmetrical skim hulls (18, 20) and the rear portion having a rear contact area (34) comprising at least one skim hull. The invention is characterized in that the front and rear hulls are disposed on either side of the centre of gravity of the structure along the longitudinal axis thereof. The rear contact area is thereby subjected to a load greater than that of the front hulls. The invention is also characterized in that the angle of attack of the hull body in relation to the water surface is positive regardless of speed.
