A swine feed may include a non-antibiotic immunomodulator, for example L-glutamine. The use of such a diet may include feeding it to piglets post-weaning and transportation to alleviate some of the negative effects of such stressors on pig production and welfare. Use of L-glutamine in the piglets' diet may have several beneficial effects, such as the reduction of enteric disease and faster weight gain. The use of L-glutamine may be a cost-effective replacement for traditional dietary antibiotics in swine production.

Described herein are methods of producing animal feed made up of oligosaccharide compositions, as well as methods of producing such oligosaccharide compositions and animal feed compositions, and methods of using such animal feed compositions to enhance animal growth. The present application addresses this need in the art by providing oligosaccharide compositions suitable for use in animal feed compositions, and methods for producing oligosaccharide compositions suitable for use in animal feed compositions. In one aspect, provided is a method of producing an animal feed composition, by: combining feed sugar with a catalyst to form a reaction mixture; producing an oligosaccharide composition from at least a portion of the reaction mixture; and combining the oligosaccharide composition with a base feed to produce an animal feed composition.

The present invention relates to a process for producing an egg yolk with a very high content of antisecretory factor (AF) proteins, in particular with a very high content of AF protein fragment consisting essentially of the amino acid sequence as shown in SEQ.ID.NO.1 (AF-16) and/or in SEQ.ID.NO.2 (AF-8), said process comprising for at least 4weeks feeding a poultry, such as a hen, an AF-16 inducing pelleted feed for poultry comprising at least 0.14% free tryptophan, such as 1-2 g tryptophan/kg feed,and thereafter harvesting egg from said poultry, separating egg yolk from egg white, and alternatively spray-drying, grinding, leaching, extracting, evaporating, membrane filtrating, and/or or freeze-drying said egg yolk. The present invention further relates to said egg yolk with a very high content of antisecretory factor (AF) proteins, produced according to the herein described process, and to their use for the preparation of functional food products and pharmaceutical products for the treatment and prophylaxis of abnormal physiological conditions caused e.g. by exceptionally high levels of body fluid discharge. Distillers dried grain with solubles (DDGS), such as DDGS from an ethanol process, can undergo a denaturing process resulting in higher measurable protein content. The denatured DDGS by product, which may include higher measurable rumen undegradable protein products or bypass proteins, can be used to produce distillers meal, which may be used as an animal feed and are able to survive the digestive process through the rumen of ruminant animals that results in more protein bioavaible to the ruminant animal in the later stages of digestion and absorption. The DDGS co-product can undergo a denaturing process to produce distillers meal having an increased rumen undegradable protein level that is about 5% to about 25% more than a rumen undegradable protein level of the distillers meal prior to the denaturing process of the DDGS co-product. Such high protein content compositions can also be used in methods for increasing nitrogen content in soil, promoting crop production, and fertilizing horticultural and/or agricultural crops.

A novel method of reducing the melting point of a peptide-based biopolymer using a nitrogen- containing compound as a plasticizer is provided. The peptide-based biopolymer can be keratin or silk. The nitrogen-containing compound can be one or more amino acids or other nitrogen- containing compounds (except urea), all of which have a melting temperature above approximately 133°C, the decomposition temperature of urea. Pellets made using this novel process can be used as animal feed and soil amendments (fertilizer) to increase the adsorption of amino acids in the animal or in the soil, respectively.
