Abstract: A method for allowing a user to make a tailored garment (M) comprises the following steps: preparing at least one image (I) comprising a sample garment (C) of the same type as the tailored garment (M) to be made and also comprising a reference object (O) with actual standardized dimensions (M7,M8); measuring on the at least one image (I) the dimensions of the reference object (O) and a set of basic dimensions (M1,M2,M3,M4,M5,M6) of the sample garment (C); calculating the actual dimensional values of the set of basic dimensions of the sample garment (C) as a function of: the dimensional values of the set of basic dimensions (M1,M2,M3,M4,M5,M6) of the sample garment (C) measured on the image (I), the dimensional values of the reference object (O) and the actual dimensions (M7,M8) of the reference object (O); selecting the aesthetic features of the tailored garment (M) to be made; transmitting to a tailoring apparatus (4) the calculated actual dimensional values of the set of basic dimensions of the sample garment (C) and the selected aesthetic features; performing on the tailoring apparatus (4) a sequence of operations of cutting and sewing the tailored garment (M), to make the tailored garment (M) so its basic dimensions are substantially equal to the previously calculated actual dimensional values of the set of basic dimensions of the sample garment (C).

Abstract: A neonatal swaddler (10) comprises front and rear flexible panels (18, 12) arranged as a bag or sleeve into which a newborn baby's torso and limbs can be inserted so that the baby's head (46) projects from the mouth of the bag or one end (64) of the sleeve and the front and rear panels cover the front and rear, respectively, of the baby's torso and limbs. The front panel is formed with perforations (74) or the like to facilitate access to the baby in the region of its umbilical stump, and/or the bag or sleeve is formed adjacent each of its sides with perforations (76) or the like to facilitate access to the baby's arms. Access can therefore be obtained to the baby's umbilical stump and arms without substantially weakening the remainder of the swaddler, and with reduced risk of injury to the baby.

Abstract: A distinctive process for making a garment having a waist opening and a pair of hanging legs is disclosed. The process includes providing a first web and a second web and joining the first web and the second web to provide a crotch seam. Portions of the webs may also be removed to provide a crotch gap. The first web is drawn from the second web and at least a portion of the webs are slit to provide a garment chassis. Edges of the garment chassis may be fastened together to provide the garment.

Abstract: The present invention provides a continuous process for the manufacture of a garment. A web of fabric including opposing web side edges wherein one of the opposing web side edges is proximate the garment bottom edge of the garment is provided. The web of fabric is cut, thereby forming a fabric web wherein the fabric web includes one of the opposing web side edges opposed to an octagonal shape pattern defining pairs of shoulder side edges having a side edge located between the shoulder side edges of each pair of the shoulder side edges and edges located between the pairs of shoulder side edges. The side edges of the fabric web are cut, thereby forming edges defining neck openings in the fabric web. The fabric web is cut, thereby defining discrete garment-sized pieces wherein each of the discrete garment-sized pieces of the fabric web includes at least one neck opening, a front panel having a pair of opposing garment side edges, a garment end portion, and a bottom edge.

Abstract: A panel positioning system can be used to position side panels during manufacture of a pant. As a pant is transported in a machine direction, the panel positioning system moves a pant side panel in a direction generally perpendicular to the machine direction. The panel positioning system can comprise a drive mechanism, a positioning mechanism operatively connected to the drive mechanism, and a head connected to the positioning mechanism. The drive mechanism and the positioning mechanism can cause the head to move in an orbital profile and contact the side panel. The orbital profile can lie in a plane generally perpendicular to a pant transport plane or in a plane oblique to a pant transport plane.

Abstract: A germent portion processing assembly (10) receives material for processing this into a desired shape, such as a shirt collar, and then organizes this into stacks. The assembly includes a stack queuing assembly (12), a garment portion cutting apparatus (14), and a garment receiving assembly (16). In operation, the stack queuing assembly prepares the stacks of garment portions (18) for processing. The garment portion cutting apparatus includes a folding assembly (30) for precisely folding in an even manner, a shaping knife assembly (32) used to trim the garment portion according to the desired pattern and a width knife assembly (33) that makes sure the garment portion has the proper width. Lastly, after the garment portion is trimmed, it is delivered to the collar receiving assembly to be stacked with the other processed garment portions (18) for collection by the user.

Abstract: A panel of a material is transported in operative proximity to an air knife having a nozzle and a curved Coanda surface, such that the panel is folded over the curved Coanda surface as the material is transported in a machine direction. The panel can be folded to a variety of angles and can comprise a refastenable fastening component. Air knives are employed in various methods for folding garment side panels and forming prefastened garments, such as refastenable pants.
