Abstract:
Described herein are support devices, which may include medical support devices. In particular, three- dimensional medical (and non-medical) devices from a single layer of material, typically by stamping or pressing (including cold pressing) a sheet of the material to form rigid and complex 3D shapes capable of use for a variety of medical and non-medical purposes. These support devices typically also include an adhesive material allowing the device to be attached to a subject's skin and/or mounted on a surface (e.g., wall, etc.). In particular, described herein are methods of manufacturing, assembling, and using adhesive support devices.
Abstract:
A nasal dilator (10) that prevents the outer wall tissue (60, 62) of the nasal passages (54, 56) of the nose (12) from drawing in during breathing comprises a truss member (16). The truss member (16) includes a flexible strip of material (18) having a first end region (20), a second end region (22) and an intermediate segment (24). The first and second end regions (20, 22) are adapted to engage the outer wall tissue (60, 62) of first and second nasal passages (54, 56) of the nose (12). The truss member (16) further includes resilient bands (30a, 30b) secured to the strip of material (18). The resiliency of the bands (30a, 30b) acts to stabilize the outer wall tissue (60, 62) and thereby prevents the outer wall tissue (60, 62) of the nasal passages (54, 56) from drawing in during breathing.
Abstract:
An exemplary medical apparatus includes a heated nasal insert, where the nasal insert is configured to radiate heat in the range of substantially 46°C to substantially 52°C in use. An exemplary medical method for inducing hemostasis in tissue of a patient includes possessing a nasal insert; apposing the nasal insert to tissue of a patent; heating the nasal insert to a temperature the range of substantially 46°C to substantially 52°C; and maintaining the nasal insert within a temperature range of substantially 46°C to substantially 52°C.
Abstract:
A dressing and an epidermal lifting mechanism for use with an application to a predetermined epidermal surface and methods of using same. The epidermal lifting mechanism comprises a strip of material having a first end portion of a predetermined shape, a second end portion of a predetermined shape, and middle portion coupling the first end portion to the second end portion. The first end portion and the second end portion each include a side including an adhesive layer. An overlaying, nonadhesive barrier layer may be located between a portion of the adhesive layer and an end portion.
Abstract:
A skin gripping apparatus for attracting and holding a region of skin comprising: a conducting layer comprising at least one conductor; a thin dielectric layer bonded to the conducting layer, which dielectric layer has a surface that is placed in contact with the region of skin so that the dielectric layer is between the conducting layer and the region of skin; and an electrical power supply that applies a potential difference between a conductor of the at least one conductor and the skin.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a therapeutic device to promote wound healing and a kit for promotion of wound healing. A method of use of the therapeutic device is also disclosed herein.
Abstract:
A paranasal sinus access implant device may include one or more material or geometric features that may enhance performance of one or more portions of the implant device, for example an exposed surface including an antimicrobial agent. Various products and methods may include or use such an implant device.
Abstract:
A device for treatment of nosebleeds having an elongated body configured to be positioned between the upper gum and the portion of the face below the nose and above the top lip of a human. When so positioned intra-orally, the device exerts pressure on an area of nasal vascularization of the human. Also, a nosebleed package having a sterile inside environment and a nosebleed device packaged therein, and a box containing a plurality of nosebleed packages.
Abstract:
A method for treating blemishes having furrows on a region of a person's skin comprising: positioning a surface of a bracing body so that the surface contacts or is proximate to the region skin; and attracting the region of skin to the surface so that blemishes in the region of skin are flattened to the surface.
