    摘要： A compact, foldable side rail for a bed comprising an upper part (120) and a lower part (130) that are hinged together at a first pivot (150). The side rail is attached to a bed by a positioning system that causes the lower part of the side rail to fold toward the upper part and allows the upper part to lie in substantially the same plane as it is raised and lowered. The side rail includes a locking mechanism. The positioning mechanism comprises an upper part pivot arm (140) that attaches to the upper part via a second pivot (126) and attaches to the bed via a third pivot (127); and a lower part pivot arm (141) fixedly attached to the lower part (130) and that attaches to the bed via a fourth pivot (128).

    摘要： A bed (10) intended for use by patients, particularly by those with Huntington's disease, comprises a perimeter rail (12) surrounding a mattress base (14). The perimeter rail provides a continuous internal padded perimeter wall from at least a level aligned with a top surface of the mattress (14) to a predetermined level above the surface of the mattress (14). The perimeter rail (12) comprises first and second bedheads (20) and first and second side rails (30), with the bedheads (20) and side rails (30) respectively disposed opposite each other. The perimeter rail (12) is generally rectangular in plan view and defines a receiving space (50) therewithin for receiving a separate mattress base (14) in use. The bedheads (20) and side rails (30) are mounted to side rail movement assemblies (40) respectively disposed at the four corner junctions between each adjacent bedhead (20) and side rail (30). The movement assemblies (40) support the bedheads (20) in a stationary manner and allow the side rails (30) to be raised or lowered relative to the bedheads (20).
