    摘要: An inhaler (2) is for use with a pharmaceutical capsule (36) containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and a carrier powder. The inhaler (2) comprises a capsule opener, a capsule chamber (12) for retaining an opened capsule (36), and a deagglomeration chamber (16) for detaching at least a portion of the API from the carrier powder. When a user inhales through an inhaler outlet downstream of the deagglomeration chamber, air enters the capsule chamber (12) through an air inlet (24), flows from the capsule chamber (12) into the deagglomeration chamber (16), and out of the outlet. The user's inhalation generates air pressures P i at the outlet, P int between the capsule chamber (12) and the deagglomeration chamber (16) and P o at the outlet.     摘要: A blister piercing element for puncturing the lid of a blister containing a dose of medicament for inhalation by a user is disclosed. It comprises a body having a surface and an opening in the surface for the passage of air, or for the passage of medicament entrained in air, through the body. The body includes a pair of spaced cutting teeth upstanding from the surface in spaced side-by-side relation, each cutting tooth projecting in cantilevered form over said opening and each having a distal cutting edge at a free end remote from said surface. The distal cutting edge of each tooth is configured to initiate a slit in a blister lid when pressure is applied to a blister lid by the teeth and the teeth are spaced from each other so that separate slits cut by the distal cutting edge of each tooth propagate in a direction toward each other between the teeth as the teeth continue to penetrate a blister lid. The pair of spaced cutting teeth form a single slit in a blister lid that defines a single flap which is folded into the blister by the teeth.

    摘要: A conventional respiratory nebulizer has an emergency medication dose storage system delivering the stored medication dose directly to the nebulizing chamber with a single impulse of manual force to a simple mechanical delivery system, thereby making the nebulizer useable in two steps: (a) opening the medication capsule with a simple opening action; and (b) inhaling the nebulized medication. The nebulizer can be operated without disassembling the nebulizer housing so as to expose the nebulizing chamber and without manually opening the liquid medication container and, without spillage and without manual pouring of the liquid medication directly into the nebulizing chamber, and without reassembling the nebulizer housing before positioning the inhaler mouthpiece in the mouth so as to inhale the nebulized medication. The delivery system includes a serrated slicing blade to sever the capsule.

    摘要: The present invention provides for the integration of drug dispersion methods into a packaging device. The drug dispersion methods used include shear (e.g., air across a drug, with or without a gas assist), capillary flow or a venturi effect, mechanical means such as spinning, vibration, or impaction, and turbulence (e.g., using mesh screens, or restrictions in the air path). These methods of drug dispersion allow for all of the drug in the packaging device to be released, allowing control of the dosage size. These methods also provide for drug metering, fluidization, entrainment, deaggragation and deagglomeration. The present invention also provides for the integration of a drug sealing system into the packaging device.

Air is drawn by the patient via a mouthpiece or nosepiece (303) which is in communication with the capsule (323) and travels via air paths through the device and through the capsule (323) thereby dispersing and entraining the dose of powder. The capsule (323) is cut by cutting means (350, 351) located on one of the components (300), in a manner which eliminates or minimizes capsule debris and minimizes powder leakage during use. The inhaler body (300) and capsule cutting blades (350, 351) comprise a single operating component and they may be manufactured in a single unitary step. The invention affords a very economical and simple device for the delivery of pulmonary medicines.
