Abstract:
A nasal delivery device (10) includes a nasal prong (14) and an activation member (22). The nasal prong can comprise an opening (16) at a top and bottom portion (18) of the prong to allow for the passage of an aerosolized treatment agent (30) through the nasal prong. The activation member can be positioned on the nasal delivery device at a location that is spaced apart from the subject's oral cavity when the nasal prong is received into the nostril (32, 38) of the subject. The activation member can be configured to detect a desired exhalation state of the subject and upon detection of the desired exhalation state, the activation member activates the delivery of the aerosolized treatment agent. The nasal delivery device comprises a handpiece (20) that can be held by a user and having an activation member for triggering the delivery of the treatment agent to a subject, and an intranasal portion or nose prong extending from the handpiece and having a dose container receiving area (58, 72) and an aerosolizing member (54, 56) to aerosolize the agent and eject an aerosolized plume into a nare of the subject. The device may comprise a vibrating-mesh nebulizer (510, 530) at a distal end of the device extending into a nare of the subject. The device may comprise an alignment device (214, 220) for improving alignment of the device with a subject to increase delivery and deposition of the agent.

Disclosed is a family of intranasal spray dispensers for administering uniform low doses of desmopressin so as to achieve safe antidiuresis in human patients. The dispensers of the invention may be used in the treatment of nocturia, primary nocturnal enuresis, incontinence, urinary frequency, diabetes insipidus, or any disease or syndrome where desmopressin therapy is useful or where safe temporary suppression of urine production may lead to beneficial health effects or increased convenience in voiding control.

A device (20) for the topical dispensing of a powder, typically a powder medicament, comprises, or is adapted to be coupled to, a powder receptacle (31) and a gasflow generator. The gasflow generator is adapted, in use, to cause gas 5 to flow through the device (20), which further comprises an agitator by which the powder and/or the powder receptacle (31) can be mechanically agitated. Actuation of the gasflow generator, which causes gas to flow through the device (20) and to entrain powder from the powder receptacle (31), thereby to dispense powder from the device (20), is accompanied by actuation of the agitator, 10 causing the powder receptacle (31) to be mechanically agitated, thereby facilitating the release of powder from the powder receptacle (31).

The invention describes a method of treating upper airway disease by administering a composition of one or more proinflammatory cytokine inhibitors sufficient to inhibit inflammation in the upper airways. The proinflammatory cytokines that are inhibited include TNF, IL-1 and IL-8. A medication dispensing unit which includes a container and a delivery system is used to administer the composition. The delivery system further encompasses a one-way valve, a microcatheter, or a liquid-pressure type sprayer.

Disclosed are methods of including a systemic immune response to provide for a non-invasive genetic immunization or a therapeutic response in an animal by providing a polynucleotide encoding a protein of interest. The types of proteins and the immune response contemplated can be directed to any encoded gene of interest related to infection or other diseases. Additionally, the methods contemplate the administration of a second exogenous sequence which encodes a protein which enhances the immune response.

A nasal inhaler for introducing a substance to a nasal cavity of a user. The nasal inhaler comprises a chamber having an interior and an exterior, an outlet comprising an air exit passageway in flow communication with the interior of the chamber, a one-way air inlet valve in one-way flow communication with the interior of the chamber, and a dosage inlet passageway in flow communication with the interior of the chamber. A container includes a dispensing portion disposed in the dosage inlet passageway. In preferred embodiment, an adapter defines the dosage inlet passageway and is connected to the chamber. A mask also can be connected to the outlet. A method for dispensing a substance into the nasal cavity of the user comprises inserting the outlet into the nasal cavity, dispensing the substance into the chamber and inhaling through the outlet. A method for assembling a nasal inhaler assembly also is provided.

Alternatively or additionally, the wall structure comprises a second and third layer, a second through-opening being provided in the second layer and the third layer covering or closing off the wall structure.
